2018 BMW X1: Release Date, Changes, Review

The German Company`s premium crossover SUV will soon going to hit the global market. It is the brand new 2018 BMW X1. This model represents the smallest SUV in BMW`S lineup. It is very popular because it is fun to drive, easy to maneuver and park. What we like as well besides its styling, is its strong performance, nice fuel efficiency, affordable price and well designed interior.

Although, according to the latest news, the major redesign is set for the 2019 model, we believe that the new 2018 model will also bring some nice refinements. Perhaps there will be some changes for the powertrain and upgraded tech features too.

This luxury crossover should be available in sDrive28i and xDrive28i trim levels. It will compete against Audi Q3, Acura RDX, Range Rover Evoque, Volvo XC60 and Buick Encore.

2018 BMW X1 powertrain and horsepower

The last year`s model has only had one engine option under its hood. So, we assume that it will be the same with the 2018`s model. The new 2018 BMW X1 will be powered with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with direct injection. This unit will be able to make 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The engine will be coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive configuration will be standard. However, the all-wheel drive will be offered too.

The X1 SUV will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds. When it comes to fuel efficiency, with front-wheel drive, it is estimated to be 23 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway and 26 mpg combined. With AWD, it is rated at 22 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway and 25 mpg combined.

Design of exterior and interior

Compared to its predecessor, the 2018 BMW X1 isn`t expected to show major differences. It looks elegant, handsome and has classical appearance of the SUV. The front end features well known BMW`s kidney grille which might receive a few changes. The headlamps look very attractive but also give it aggressive appearance. There are as well air intakes which are placed lower. Furthermore, the side of the vehicle is nicely sculpted. Perhaps, it will receive a few new exterior colors and new design of the wheels. It will ride on standard 18-inch alloy wheels. Unfortunately, for more visible changes and modifications we will have to wait at least a year or two.

Inside, 2018 BMW X1 features very attractive but simple design. The cabin is comfortable, modern and functional. All the seats are supportive and comfortable even at long rides. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather while the leather upholstery will be standard on higher trim levels. All the models will come standard with automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, Bluetooth, audio system with seven speakers etc. The top trims will feature a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, keyless entry, navigation and so on.

2018 BMW X1 rear

The safety will be in the top of the class. We can expect various systems and features. Some of them will be: adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, lane departure warning, forward collision warning etc.
