The next generation of BMW`s well known SUV is ready to hit the market worldwide. It is the new 2018 BMW X5 M. The current model has been around for quite some time, so the German manufacturer decided to give it a major redesign. The new X5 has been spied during its testing at the Nurburgring; what we have been able to see is that it will bring many changes.
After a five year cycle, the fourth generation model will ride on the new architecture. There will be some interesting changes of its exterior design and upgrades inside the cabin as well. Furthermore, the standard X5 will offer several types of engines including a plug-in-hybrid while the X5 M version will have the strongest performance. Besides all these changes, the improved tech features are expected too. The main competitors of the new BMW will be Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GLE.
2018 BMW X5 M engine and performance
The next X5 will offer several types of engines including four, six and an eight-cylinder unit. However, the 2018 BMW X5 M will have the most powerful unit under its hood. It will be a 4.4-liter V-8 engine which is also found in its predecessor. The current model is able to develop 567 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. However, since the automaker is increasing the output of all the engines, we believe that the X5 M will be able to produce even 600 horsepower. The engine will be paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as before. The new BMW X5 M should be able to hit 60 mph in less than 4 seconds which is really great.
New platform, exterior and interior design
The 2018 BMW X5 M will ride on a new CLAR platform which also underpins the 7 Series. This architecture is suitable for aluminum, steel or carbon fiber body, so we assume that there will be some weight reduction. Therefore, we can expect better handling, better performance and perhaps some improvements in fuel consumption.
When it comes to exterior, the 2018 BMW X5 M has been heavily disguised, se we cannot reveal much. However, based on the position of the camouflage, we can expect changes both of front and rear fascia. The front will feature slightly larger kidney grille, restyled narrower headlamps and a new bumper. Furthermore, on the rear end, we will probably see new tail lamps.
Speaking of the interior, the new X5 M will be refreshed with quality materials and upgraded technology. The cabin should be even more spacious than before. The seats will be upholstered in soft leather and very comfortable. The heated and adjustable front seats will be standard. Furthermore, we will see the new and larger touchscreen display with upgraded infotainment system.
Release date and price of 2018 BMW X5 M
The 2018 BMW X5 M should go on sale in the end of 2017. As for the price, the standard version starts at around $55,000. However, the X5 M should be more expensive and it will probably cost around $60,000.
