Despite the fact that lately we could hear the rumors about the discontinuation of the Dodge Journey model, latest news has confirmed that we will soon see the new 2018 Dodge Journey. This model is one of the most affordable crossovers with three row seat-configuration on the market. So, the number of its sales is still on the high level. Perhaps and most likely it is the main reason why the American car maker will continue with its production at least for the 2018 model year.
What people love the most about the Journey is its very spacious cabin, good cargo space and generally good cabin. However, we can all notice that its design is a bit outdated and when we compare it with its main rivals such as Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan Rogue, Kia Sorento and others, we must admit that it is a bit disappointing. But taking all the facts together, it is still a reliable, affordable, uses all-wheel drive configuration and a spacious vehicle which is particularly convenient for families and trips.
So, for the upcoming Journey, we can expect no changes either in its design or equipment or engine department. It will be available in SE, SXT, Crossroad and GT trim levels.
2018 Dodge Journey powertrain and performances
The new 2018 Dodge Journey will be powered with two types of engines as before. The base is a 2.4-liter inline-4 which can develop 173 horses and 166 pound-feet of torque. The front wheel-drive system is standard and the engine is paired with a 4-speed automatic gearbox.
The second one is the optional 3.6-liter V-6 engine. This unit can produce 283 horses and 260 pound-feet of torque. The power is sent to the wheels via 6-speed automatic transmission. The front-wheel drive is standard while the all-wheel is optional. The fuel economy with AWD is rated at 16/29/24 mpg while with rear-wheel drive it gets 17/25/19 mpg in the city/highway/combined drive.
Design of exterior and interior
Speaking of the exterior design, the 2018 Dodge Journey will continue unchanged from 2017 model. We cannot say that its design is not handsome, but it starting to be old a bit. The base model comes with the 17-inch steel wheels. However, the higher trims will get some upgrades such as alloy 19-inch wheels, LED taillights and so on.
Inside, the 2018 Dodge Journey is very spacious offering three rows of seats and ability to welcome seven passengers. The seats are upholstered in cloth while the leather upholstery is standard in higher trims. The cargo space is generally good but in addition to that the second and the third row can fold flat for even more room for storage. The dashboard features 4.3-inch touchscreen with audio system. However, the Crossroad trim will appear with larger 8.4-inch infotainment system.
The standard equipment also includes USB, power locks and window while the Bluetooth, CD player alloy wheels etc. are still optional. We must admit that it is very limited considering tech side. Some of the optional features will be navigation, rear park assist, a rear-seat entertainment system, a rearview camera and a few more.
Release date and price
The new 2018 Dodge Journey should hit the market sometime in the end of 2017. As for the price, it will probably start at around $22,500.
