2018 Ford Explorer: Sport, Colors, Price

After it was firstly introduced in 1991, the Ford Explorer has become one of the most popular SUV `s, especially on the American market. Now it will appear as the new and improved 2018 Ford Explorer. This model has already undergone a mid-cycle refresh in 2016. So, this time we expect some mild adjustments before the next complete overhaul in a few years from now. Considering its price, the Explorer stands above the Escape, Edge and Flex models and bellow the full size Expedition.

For the 2018 model year, we expect some small changes on both front and rear end. Perhaps they won`t be impressible at first glance, but they will be surely visible. Moreover, it will come with new exterior colors, redesigned wheels and upgraded technology. The 2018 Explorer will be offered in four trim levels. Those are: base, XLT, Limited, Sport and Platinum. Its main competitors on the market will be Chevrolet Traverse, Dodge Durango, GMC Acadia, Nissan Pathfinder, Mazda CX-9 and Honda Pilot.

As for the powertrain of the 2018 Ford Explorer, there won`t be any changes. The upcoming Explorer will continue with the same engines which power the current model. So, the base engine will be a 3.5-liter V6. This one will be able to make 290 horses and 255 pound-feet of torque.

The second option will be a 2.3-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost engine. This one will be able to make 280 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The most powerful unit will be a 3.5-liter V-6 turbocharged unit. This engine will be capable of producing 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.

The powertrains are coupled to the six-speed automatic transmission. The front wheel drive is standard while the all-wheel drive configuration will be available as well.

Design and exterior and interior

Speaking of the exterior design, the 2018 Ford Explorer will feature revised front and rear fascias. On the front we will see a new grille and redesigned fog lights. Furthermore, the most powerful engine will also get four tailpipes on the rear. The new Ford will be offered with five new designs of the wheels too. As well, it will be available with four new colors for exterior. Those are: blue metallic, cinnamon glaze, burgundy velvet tinted clearcoat and platinum dune tricoat.

Inside, the 2018 Ford Explorer won`t differ much from its predecessor considering its design. This midsize SUV is very spacious; and has three rows of comfortable seats. However, it is said that it will now offer more infotainment and safety features. It will be available with a newly 4G LTE modem with Wi-Fi hotspot. Some of the optional equipment will be panoramic sunroof, navigation, leather upholstery, heated seats, Sirius XM radio, Bluetooth and so on. Moreover, as for the safety, it will include adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, cross-traffic warning, lane keeping, collision warning etc.

The new 2018 Ford Explorer should hit the market this fall. When it comes to the price, the base model should start at around $32,000. Depending on a trim level and equipment, the price will go up to $54,000.
