Since it was firstly presented back in 2002, Honda Pilot stands for one of the very popular and good-selling sport utility vehicles. This full size SUV was set for a complete overhaul for long until the Company decided to give it long awaited redesign in 2016. Therefore, since it is still fresh as the third generation model, the all new 2018 Honda Pilot should not differ much from the current. So, we can conclude that it could receive only mild changes if there would be any at all.
The new Honda will appear with less boxy exterior, nicely designed and very well equipped cabin. The engine will remain the same as in the current version. The upcoming Pilot will be available in several trim levels as before. Those will be LX, EX, EX-L, EX-L RES, EX-L Navi and Touring. Its strongest rivals on the market will be: Dodge Durango, Toyota Highlander, Ford Explorer, Mazda CX-9, Nissan Pathfinder, Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento.
Engine and performance of the 2018 Honda Pilot
Like we have already said, we expect no changes under the hood of the 2018 Honda Pilot. It will use the same engine as its predecessor. It will be a 3.5-liter V-6 with direct injection. This unit will be capable of making 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. There will be an option between standard six-speed automatic and optional nine-speed automatic transmissions. The front-wheel drive system will be standard. However, it will also be offered with an all-wheel drive configuration.
As for the fuel economy, the new Honda is rated at 19 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway and 22 mpg combined. It will be able to hit 60 mph in less than seven seconds.
Design of exterior and interior
The new 2018 Honda Pilot shares the same platform with the Ridgeline model. It is one of the largest SUVs in lineup. Speaking of the exterior design, it will feature less boxy and more rounded shape. The softer lines and rounded edges will be visible all over the body. It will look more elegant and handsome when we compare it with its predecessor. The large panoramic roof will be available this time too. It will ride on standard with 18-inch wheels.
Inside, the 2018 Honda Pilot is very spacious offering three rows of seats. It is able to accommodate up to eight passengers. The first row of seats is almost perfectly shaped, and third row has enough space to place two adults comfortably. It can also fold down for more cargo space. The dashboard will feature a 5.0-inch touchscreen. However, a larger 8.0-inch display will be standard on higher trim levels.
The standard equipment includes Bluetooth, audio system with seven speakers, a rearview camera, air conditioning, cruise control, a till and telescoping steering wheel etc. Moving to the top model, new Honda will offer leather upholstery, a rear DVD entertainment system, premium audio with 10 speakers, navigation and so on.
Release date and price
The new 2018 Honda Pilot will most likely arrive in the end of 2017, or in early 2018. The starting price should be similar to the one of the current model which is around $31,500.
