Based on the latest reports, the Jeep Company is preparing a redesign of its old compact SUV. It is the newest 2018 Jeep Liberty which should arrive with some mild but important changes. The first Liberty was introduced back in 2002 and it represented a replacement for the Cherokee model with which it shares many similarities. However, the name Cherokee has always been used for this model outside of North America. As well, it was the Company’s smallest SUV in offer before the arrival of the Compass and Patriot models.
So, for the 2018 model year, the new Liberty will bring updated standard features. As well, it will arrive with new Tech Connect Package which will include some styling changes and improved interior features. Under the hood, there will be two types of engines to choose from.
Its main rivals will be Subaru Forester, Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, Ford Escape and Honda CR-V.
2018 Jeep Liberty engines and performances
Like we have previously mentioned, the 2018 Jeep Liberty will be available with two drivetrains. The base one will be a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine which will have the output of 184 horses and the torque of 171 pound-feet. The second option will be a 3.2-liter V-6 engine. This one will be able to make 271 horsepower and 239 pound-feet of torque. Both engines will pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Furthermore, it will be available with front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations.
Design of exterior and interior
Speaking of the exterior design, the 2018 Jeep Liberty is expected to arrive pretty much the same as the current model. The front end is dominated by the seven slot grille and a pair of slim HID headlamps. The only novelties we can expect this time are the standard 17-inch wheels and standard roof rails.
Speaking of the interior, the 2018 Jeep Liberty offers sufficiently spacious cabin although the rear passengers might lack in knee room. However, generally the cabin of the new Liberty is very well designed with quality materials and advanced equipment. The seats are cozy and they differ depending on a trim level. They are covered with cloth in the base trim, while in higher trims they are upholstered in leather. The dashboard will feature a 5.0-inch touchscreen with audio system. However, the top trims will arrive with an 8.4-inch touchscreen with latest infotainment system.
Speaking of the equipment, the standard features in the base model will include keyless entry, a rearview camera, USB, Bluetooth, cruise control and power features. However, heated seats and heated steering wheel, CD player and satellite radio will be optional. The higher trims will offer various features; some of them will be dual-zone climate control, satellite radio, blind-spot monitors, parking sensors, a panoramic sunroof, remote start, adaptive cruise control and many other more.
Release date and price
The 2018 Jeep Liberty is expected to arrive sometime during next year. As for the pricing, it should start at around $27,000 and will be go up to $39,000 for the higher trims.
