The Kia Company has confirmed the all new Kia Niro model which will be available in three configurations. Those are: Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and all-electric models. Here we will talk about the upcoming 2018 Kia Niro EV.

The Niro electric vehicle will represent the third model in the Niro lineup. The new hybrid and PHEV versions are already available on the market and how the South Korean brand is planning to launch 31 electric vehicles by the year of 2020, now was the time to release the all new electric version of Niro model. It will share the same engine with the Hyundai Ioniq EV and visually it will be very similar to the standard version, perhaps with some small adjustments.

2018 Kia Niro EV powertrain, range and performance

When it comes to the engine, the upcoming 2018 Kia Niro EV will be all-electric vehicle. It will use the same motor which powers the Hyundai Ioniq Electic. So, the new Kia will be powered with an electric motor which will be able to make 118 horsepower and 215 pound-feet of torque. As well, there will be a battery of 28 kWh. In the Ioniq model, this battery has a range of around 130 miles so we expect similar range in the upcoming Niro model.

Design of exterior and interior

Speaking of the exterior design, the Company still hasn’t revealed any information. However, based on the previous plug-in hybrid and hybrid models, we assume that it will be very similar to the standard version of this model. Of course, we can expect some minor changes and unique design details in order to make difference between these models. So, in that case, we will probably see some adjustments on the front fascia including unique design of the grille and restyled headlamps. The rear end will probably receive the same treatment with taillights and bumper. Furthermore, the unique design of the wheels is expected too.

As for the interior, the 2018 Kia Niro EV should also share the same design of the cabin as the rest members of the lineup. So, the cabin of the new Niro EV should be sufficiently roomy, comfortable and well equipped. The seats should be available with cloth and leather upholstery depending on a trim level. The dashboard will most likely feature the same 8.0-inch touchscreen display as the PHEV model.  As for the equipment, the new Kia should be available with LED lights, dual-zone climate control, collision warning etc. Some of the optional features will include navigation, premium sound system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and so on.
