The Italian car maker has confirmed the production of its luxury SUV. It is the 2018 Maserati Levante. This model was firstly presented at the Frankfurt Auto Show back in 2011 as the Kubang Concept. Then, it was confirmed that the model will go in production and was presented at the Geneva Motor Show.
The brand new Maserati Levante will be in the top of the class. This luxury model will offer premium Italian style, beautiful and functional cabin and top-notch technology features. Furthermore, it will show an excellent on- and off-road capabilities and great handling in all weather conditions. There won`t be any type of surface which this great SUV won`t be able to conquer. Depending on a trim level, new Maserati will be offered with two types of strong and powerful engines.
The main rivals of the Maserati Levante will be Range Rover Sport SVR and Porsche Cayenne Turbo S.
2018 Maserati Levante powertrain and performance
Under the hood of the 2018 Maserati Levante will be place the engine which is also found in the Ghibli sedan model. It is a 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbocharged engine. The performance of this unit will be different depending on a trim level. So, in the base model this engine will produce 345 horsepower. However, in the top Levante S it will be more powerful and will have the output of 424 horses. This top model will be able to hit 60 mph in 5.2 seconds which is not bad at all.
The both engines will be mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox. The all-wheel drive system will be standard.
Some sources claim that in order to be more competitive in large SUV market, the Company will also power it with the engine used in the Quattroporte GTS. It is a 3.8-liter V-8 twin-turbo engine. This unit is able to produce 523 hp and 479 pound-feet of torque. However, this information is not yet confirmed.
Exterior and interior design
The new 2018 Maserati Levante will ride on the same platform which underpins the Quattroporte and Ghibli models. When it comes to exterior, the Levante will look very attractive, menacing and powerful. It will get sharper edges and lines which will make it look more aggressive. On the front end we will see wide honeycomb grille finished in glossy black. Bellow the grille, there will be lower intake which will be wider and extended. The fog lights will be incorporated into the bumper. On the side, we will notice revised small and sharp side-view mirrors.
Inside, the 2018 Maserati Levante will be luxurious, comfortable and very-well equipped. There will be nice wood and aluminum details all over the cabin. The seats will be upholstered in premium leather. The dashboard will receive an 8.4-inch display with infotainment system. The Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system with 17 speakers will be standard too.
Release date and price
The new 2018 Maserati Levante should go on sale later this year, perhaps in the end of 2017. As for the price, it should start at around $83,000. However, the top trim level could reach the price of even $120,000.
