Initially known as the GLK model, the upcoming GLC compact crossover should hit the market with its attractive styling, wide choice of engines under its hood and quality interior. This time we will say something about the all new 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC.
This model has undergone some major changes in 2016. It has received slightly redesigned exterior, new tech features, the GLC Coupe and the high performance version called GLC43 AMG. So, it is relatively fresh and new on the market and there was no need for any further modifications this time.
On the other hand, some sources claim that for the 2018 model year, we can expect some novelties under its hood such as new diesel or a plug-in hybrid powertrains. However, speaking of the exterior and interior, there probably won’t be any refreshments. The standard features should stay pretty much unchanged too. All in all, good-looking and well -equipped cabin, wide choice of engines and handsome styling will definitively place it in the top of the class.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC will be available in two versions like the current model. Those are the GLC300 and AMG GLC43. Its major competitors on the market will be Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Lexus RX 350.
2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC types of engines and performance
Under the hood of the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC, we can expect several types of engines. The base model will be powered with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged unit. This engine will be able to generate 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. The rear -wheel drive will be standard while the all-wheel drive configuration will be optional.
The AMG GLC43 will be available a 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbo engine. This unit will have the output of 362 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. It will only be offered with all-wheel drive system. Both engines will be mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
According to the latest news, the new GLC will have a hybrid powertrain too. It could be combination of a 2.0-liter with the output of 211 horses and an electric motor which can produce 166 hp. The transmission for this engine could be a 7-speed automatic. However, this information is not yet confirmed.
Design of exterior and interior
Speaking of the exterior design, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC will retain the same design of the 2017 model year. Last year, the German automaker has replaced its boxy and square design with more rounded lines and softer edges. The AMG GLC43 will feature sportier design while the Coupe version will get more aggressive and sleek appearance.
Inside the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC, we could say that it will be the same story. Its cabin already looks very attractive and it is very well equipped so it doesn’t need any further redesign. The standard features will include wood trim, dual-zone climate control, a 7-inch infotainment display, keyless entry and ignition, automatic headlights and so on. The higher trims will add lane keeping assist, larger 8.4-inch screen, blind-spot monitors, navigation, forward collision mitigation etc.
Release date and price
The new 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC should arrive in following month. As for the price, it is expected to start at roughly $40,000.
