2018 Mitsubishi ASX: Review, Release Date

One of the Japanese best-selling small SUVs, besides the Mazda CX-3 model, is ready for a complete overhaul. We are talking about the new 2018 Mitsubishi ASX. Since the lifecycle of the current model is getting closer to its end, it is the right time to give it some major upgrades. The new Mitsubishi will represent the next generation model. It has been caught testing several times, and from what we have seen, there will be some interesting changes.

Base on the spy photos, this new model will be slightly inspired by the Mitsubishi Concept XP-PHEV considering its design. As well, the cabin should receive new modern technology. The fourth generation ASX should also get a plug-in hybrid unit under its hood. Moreover, if the latest news is true, the new Mitsubishi might grow in a size a bit. Its main competitors on the market will be Mazda CX-3.

It is still uncertain what engines will power the new 2018 Mitsubishi ASX. There are only rumors and assumptions. So, it those speculations are true, this small SUV should get several types of engines including petrol and diesel units with and without turbochargers. So, the costumers will have the choice between 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter petrol and 2.2-liter diesel units. The performance is not yet revealed, however, we expect it to be more powerful for the next generation model. The fuel economy should be better too.

Besides these units, the brand new Mitsubishi will most likely receive a plug-in hybrid engine. It might be a combination of the 1.6-liter turbocharged unit and an electric motor. However, any further details about this powertrain are unavailable. The new ASX should be available with both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations.

Design of exterior and interior

Like we have already said, the exterior design of the new 2018 Mitsubishi ASX will share the similar design with the Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV II model. So, we will see changes on the both front and rear fascias. On the front end, there will be revised grille with new chrome bar, refreshed headlamps and new daytime running lights. The rear end should look sportier and taller than before. It will feature new bumper and with C-shaped reflectors on each side. All in all, the upcoming Mitsubishi will look more aggressive and attractive that the current model.

The interior of the 2018 Mitsubishi ASX should also undergo some upgrades considering its technology. The Company promises more quiet and comfortable cabin and ride because of the new tech features which will reduce the noise and vibrations for the minimum. The dashboard will get squarer design; it will feature the new 7.0-inch touchscreen with infotainment system which will include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.As for the safety, it will be available with optional Touring Package which besides the panoramic roof offers plenty of safety systems too. Those are: rearview camera, lane departure warning, automatic high beam, forward collision mitigation and so on.

Release date and price of the Mitsubishi ASX

The new 2018 Mitsubishi ASX should go on sale in the beginning of 2018. As for the price, we don`t have any information, but we assume that it should be slightly higher than the price of its predecessor.
