When Porsche took its decision of venturing into the SUV segment with its Cayenne, not all the fans were happy, as they expected more variants of the 911 instead. However, the Cayenne turned out to be successful, and as a result of that, the German auto manufacturer decided to introduce a compact model known as the Macan. It gained immediate success when it was launched in 2014. As it is, the segment of compact luxury cars is very competitive, so the carmaker needs to keep things fresh. This is why they are working on the facelifted 2018 Porsche Macan.
2018 Porsche Macan: Engine Options
The drivetrain department doesn’t prepare anything new for the 2018 Porsche Macan. So, the available engine options will be the same as today. There is a 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine for entry level model with an output of 252 HP and 273 lb-ft of torque, as well as a more potent 3.0-liter V6 engine that’s generating 360 HP and 369 lb-ft of torque. However, the second mill comes together with the GTS model only. The carmaker offers a diesel engine in some market. It’s a 3.0-liter turbo diesel which generates 258 HP and 427 lb-ft of torque. The range-topping Macan Turbo receives a 3.6-liter twin turbo V6 unit with an output of 400 HP and 406 lb-ft of torque.
Price Range and Rivals
The current Porsche Macan has a starting price of $47,800, which increases up to $77,200 for the range topping model. Given that 2018 Porsche Macan doesn’t introduce massive changes, expect a similar pricing. At this range, competition is likely to come from BMW X3 and Audi Q5.
Design Changes and Equipment
The fact that this model is receiving a facelift doesn’t necessarily guarantee that there will be a lot of changes. The facelifts from Porsche do not have the reputation of introducing significant modifications. So, just as you would expect, the exterior of the 2018 Macan will not change much with this facelift, with the same overall body shell and hood expected to carry over. Even the front grille shall remain the same.
There are still certain minor changes with the upcoming model. The layout of headlights should be somewhat different this time around. The horizontal fog lights might replace the vertical units available in the present model. There is nothing new, as far as side profile is concerned. You can expect new wheel design, as well as one or two new standard colors. In the rear, the crossover won’t get anything new aside from a new taillight layout.
There is no too much information about the interior of the 2018 Porsche Macan, so we can’t really say what’s coming. However, it is highly likely that there wouldn’t be any noteworthy changes. The cabin of the present model already offers a decent amount of leather, sophisticated lines, and precise transitions.
Seats will still have good side support, although stitching pattern might be different. Dashboard remains unmodified, but new trim inserts may be on offer. Revised instrument cluster and revised steering wheel are amongst other expected changes. It will come standard with the PCM system of the Porsche with an 8.4-inch touchscreen display. Infotainment display may receive new graphics with a software update. A 16-speaker Burmester sound system will be updated while Bose audio system may come as an option. Overall, interior modifications are moderate at the most.
