After almost a decade, the brand new 2018 Range Rover Velar is back and will soon join the market. It has been recently revealed at the New York Auto Show and at the Geneva Motor Show. This time, the new Velar will appear with more innovative technology and handsome design as always. Of course, we can expect some improvements considering architecture and more powertrain options.
The new Range Rover Velar will available in four different trim levels which will differ in price, technology features and engine options. Those are the base, S, SE and HSE models.
Types of engines and performance
The 2018 Range Rover Velar will be powered with several types of engines. This will depend on a trim level. So, the base model will be equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gas engine. This one will have the output of 247 horsepower. It will be able to hit 60 mph in 6.4 seconds. The next is a 2.0-liter four cylinder diesel unit. It will be able to make 180 horses and 317 pound-feet of torque. The top trim model will have under its hood the strongest powertrain. It will be a 3.0-liter V-6 supercharged engine. This one will be capable of producing 380 horsepower. With this unit, the new Velar will reach 60 mph in 5.3 seconds.
Moreover, all the engines will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive configuration will be standard for all the models. Its towing capacity will be up to 5500 pounds.
Design of exterior and interior
Speaking of the exterior, the 2018 Range Rover Velar will share the same lightweight aluminum architecture with Jaguar XE. The shape of the body will be more aerodynamic than the current model. It will feature softer and more rounded lines. The front fascia will be influenced by the Evoque model. We will notice revised mesh grille and a pair of sleek headlamps which will give it menacing look. The Matrix-Laser LED headlamps will be also available. The front bumper will be new too. As well, on the side, there will be the new flush door handles. On the rear, we will see an integrated spoiler which will also help improving aerodynamics of the vehicle. Furthermore, it will ride on 21-inch wheels while the 22-inch split-spoke wheels will be offered too.
Inside, 2018 Range Rover Velar will be very functional and spacious. The cabin is able to place five passengers in comfortable seats. Moreover, it provides enough luggage space behind the rear seats. The adjustable front seats with massage function and leather upholstery will be available as well. The dashboard will feature new and larger two 10-inch touchscreen displays with infotainment system. As for the tech features, it will be available with a 1600-watt Meridian Signature Radio, carbon-fiber trim and so on. Furthermore, the new Velar will be provided with many safety systems. Some are: lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and so on.
Release date and price of 2018 Range Rover Velar
The 2018 Range Rover Velar is set to be launched later this year, most likely in the summer. The price of the base model should start at $49,900. The highest trim level is expected to be around $89,300.
