VW Company is finally launching a three-row crossover SUV ideal for families. It is the new Volkswagen Atlas. As well, the car maker has confirmed that it will offer the R-Line Package on the upcoming Atlas which has been already available on other Volkswagen`s models. The new 2018 VW Atlas R-Line won`t get any mechanical and performance changes. So, the engines which power the standard Atlas model which will be also found in the Atlas R-Line. However, this package will bring some styling enhancements and some interesting upgrades inside the cabin.
The VW Atlas will be offered in three trim levels. Those are the base S, SE and SEL trims. However, the R-Line will be only available in higher trim levels, as to say SE and SEL models. With sportier appearance, thanks to the R-Line package, roomy interior and nice cargo space, we predict that it is going to be very popular, especially among families.
The main rivals of the new Atlas will be Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder etc.
2018 VW Atlas R-Line engines and performances
Under the hood of the 2018 VW Atlas R-Line will be found the same engine options which power the standard Atlas model. The first option will be a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. This unit will be able to develop 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The second will be a 3.6-liter V-6 engine which will have the output of 276 horses and 266 pound-feet of torque.
The both engines will be coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The front-wheel drive will be standard. The all-wheel drive will be available too. However, the V-6 unit will only come with AWD configuration.
Speaking of the fuel economy, the new Atlas will not show such good results. With AWD and V-6 engine, it is rated at 17 mpg in the city, 23 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg combined. With FWD, it is slightly more efficient, and it offers 18∕ 25∕ 20 mpg in the city∕ highway ∕ combined. Unfortunately, for the 4-cylinder powertrain, we still don`t have exact information.
Design of exterior and interior
The new 2018 VW Atlas R-Line will ride on the VW`S new MQB architecture. Speaking of the exterior design, because of the R-Line Package, new Atlas will get sportier and more dynamic appearance than the standard model. The R-Line model will receive unique design of the front and rear bumpers. It will ride on special 20-inch alloy wheels too. Furthermore, it will get side skirts, R-Line badges and a diffuser at the rear end.
Inside, the 2018 VW Atlas R-Line is very spacious and comfortable. It has three rows of seats and an excellent cargo space. It can accommodate seven passengers, and the access to the second and the third row is very easy. All the trims come standard with a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, a rearview camera, audio system with six speakers and so on. The R-Line Package adds an R-Line logo on the screen of the infotainment system, stainless steel pedal covers and an R-Line steering wheel piece.
Release date and price
The VW Atlas is already available on the market. However, the 2018 VW Atlas R-Line should arrive later this year. As for the price, unfortunately we still don`t have any information.
