2018 VW Touareg: Review, Release Date, Price

The all new 2018 VW Touareg has just been revealed at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The upcoming Touareg will represent the third generation of this model so we will see many upgrades this time for sure. This five-seat crossover generally looks attractive inside and out, it has solid engine under its hood and provides refined drive. However, what might turn the costumers away, especially families, is the lack of the third row which is not even in offer.

The 2018 model year, like we have previously mentioned, is going to bring many improvements in all segments. First of all, the new Touareg will be underpinned with a new platform and will be lighter than before. Furthermore, it will receive a redesign of the interior and exterior too. As well, there will also be upgrades in the engine department.

The main rivals of the new VW will be Acura MDX, Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Lexus RX and BMW X5.

2018 VW Touareg engine and performance

Under the hood of the 2018 VW Touareg will be placed several types of engines. It will receive a range of diesel and gasoline engines. As well, there should also be a hybrid unit in the offer. So, the new VW will be powered with a 3.0-liter V-6 turbodiesel engine which will be able to make around 280 horses and 266 pound-feet of torque. The engine will most likely pair with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. There will also be a 3.0-liter V-6 TSI unit which will have the output of around 300 horses. Furthermore, a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder unit could also be found in the future Touareg.

The hybrid version will be a combination of a 3.0-liter V-6 engine and an electric motor. The total output of this unit should be at least 400 horsepower.

Exterior and interior design

The 2018 VW Touareg will ride on the VW Group MLB platform which also underpins the Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga. So, it is going to be a bit larger than its predecessor which will improve the interior space.

When it comes to external appearance, the new Touareg will borrow some design cues from the T-Prime GTE Concept. It will feature more angular body lines and will be better sculpted. The front fascia will be dominated by the massive chrome grille, large headlamps with C-shaped LED daytime running lights. As well, we will notice sporty bumper and deep air intakes. On the rear, there will be slim taillights and the rear bumper which will feature more chrome details.

2018 VW Touareg cabin

Inside, the 2018 VW Touareg will be more spacious than before because of the new platform. The cargo space is going to be improved too. The cabin will be able to welcome five passengers comfortably. Furthermore, the interior will also be inspired by the T-Prime Concept. The dashboard will be wide featuring large 15-inch touchscreen and new all-digital instrument cluster.

Release date and price

The new 2018 VW Touareg should go on sale sometime in the beginning of 2018. Speaking of the price, it should be higher than the one of the current model. So, we assume that it will start at around $51,000.
