The Acura Company is working on the next generation of its compact SUV crossover. It is the new 2019 Acura RDX. This model firstly debuted in 2007 and after appeared as the second generation in 2013. Since then, it has gotten a makeover in 2016 and now is finally entering the third generation.
The upcoming Acura has been spotted during its testing under the heavy camouflage. So, we can conclude that the car maker is preparing some interesting and major adjustments this time. Therefore, we will most likely see changes of the exterior including new grille, new engine options under the hood or at least upgraded ones, and restyled interior. The cabin will be roomier too and will feature many modern features. As well, the new RDX will ride on the new platform this time.
The key competitors of the Acura crossover will be BMW X3, Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC and Land Rover Evoque.
2019 Acura RDX engines and performances
The current RDX uses a 3.5-liter V-6 engine but according to the latest news, the upcoming 2019 Acura RDX will most likely drop it in favor of new ones. So, the future Acura will probably receive the same engine which powers the Honda Civic Type R. It is a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol unit which in Civic model is able to make 306 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque. However, the RDX will be less powerful and its output is expected to be around 290 horses.
On the other hand, some sources say that it might get a 3.5-liter V-6 found in the new Odyssey minivan. However, speaking of the engine department, everything is still under the question. As well, we wouldn’t be surprised if it appears with a hybrid version too. As for the drivetrain, it will be available with front- and all-wheel drive configurations.
Exterior and interior design
The 2019 Acura RDX will ride on a version of the platform which underpins the new CR-V model. Speaking of the exterior, the upcoming RDX will receive a completely new look featuring more boxy design. The front fascia will get a completely new grille, restyled LED headlamps which should be similar to the ones in current MDX and ILX models. Bellow the grille, we will notice larger air vents and longer LED fog lights. On the rear, there will also be new taillights which will look more aggressive and new bumper and dual exhaust outlets.
Inside, the 2019 Acura RDX should be fully redesigned too. The changes will include more spacious cabin, soft-touch materials and more equipment. Furthermore, we assume that the future RDX will receive a new design of the dashboard and steering wheel too. The higher trim levels will most likely receive leather upholstery. The equipment should also be updated, including latest infotainment system and a new digital display for the driver.
Release date and price
The 2019 Acura RDX should go into production sometime during 2018. When it comes to the price, we assume that it should the higher than the price of the current model which starts at around $36,000.
