A prototype of the upcoming 2019 Audi Q3 has been caught during its testing in Germany. This new compact crossover will ride on the well-known MQB platform which underpins the Volkswagen’s compact and mid size vehicles.
This model was firstly introduced back in 2011, and after that it has gotten a few makeovers. So, it really needed a major facelift considering underpinnings, technology and design. Starting from the exterior, because of the new architecture, the Q3 will be a bit larger than before, and it will show some interesting adjustments all over the body. The larger dimensions will lead to the more space inside and more comfort of course. However, despite it will grow in size, the upcoming Audi is expected to be lighter as well. Under the hood, there will be several engines to choose from including a plug-in hybrid version also. Its main rival on the market will be Range Rover Evoque.
2019 Audi Q3 engines and performances
The new 2019 Audi Q3 will be offered with several engines under its hood. The most represented will be four-cylinder units. According to some rumors, the base will be a small 1.0-liter 3-cylinder TSI unit while the range-topping will borrow the same engines used in RS 3 and TT RS models. It is a 2.5-liter 5-cylinder turbo engine which will be able to develop up to 400 horses. There could also be a 2.0-liter TDI twin-turbo with the output of around 240 hp.
On the other hand, at some point in future, the Q3 should also get a plug-in hybrid engine which should provide a range of at least 186 miles. Moreover, some sources also claim that it will arrive as the EV version, using the same unit which powers the current VW e-Golf. The front -wheel drive system will be standard while the all-wheel drive should available too.
New platform, exterior and interior design
The 2019 Audi Q3 will no longer ride on the PQ35 platform but instead on the latest MQB architecture. This will increase its size, so it is going to be longer for 2.3 inches. As well, this will reduce its weight for roughly 110 pounds.
When it comes to the exterior design, the future 2019 Audi Q3 should receive some major changes. Firstly, the grille is going to be wider than before and the headlamps will be differently shaped. The air intakes also seem larger than before. Moving to the side, we will notice lower-positioned mirrors. On the rear end, the taillights will keep its familiar design and there will be a sloping rear window and a spoiler.
There isn’t much specific information about the interior design of the 2019 Audi Q3. We can only assume that it is going to be in the top of the class as expected. However, what it sure is that the cabin will be more spacious now because of the new platform. This means more comfort and better ride quality.
Release date and price
The 2019 Audi Q3 should appear in the end of 2018 while the sales should start sometime in 2019. The price is still not available.
