Lately, we could hear the news about the newest 2019 Audi Q8 and at the annual press conference, the manufacturer has confirmed that this June they will present its luxury crossover SUV in Shanghai. The Q8 has been spotted almost undisguised and when we take a look at the spy photos, we could notice that it will be based on the Q8 E-Tron concept and Q8 Sport concept models. It will ride on the same MLB-Evo platform which also underpins the Q7. As well, they will be about the similar size. Unlike the Q7 which comes standard with a three-row seating configuration, the Audi Q8 will offer a seating for four. However, a five-seating configuration will be optional.
Visually, the newest Audi Q8 will feature octagonal grille and slimmer headlamps which are very similar to the ones on the latest 2019 Audi A8 and which give it more dramatical look. Under the hood, the new Audi will offer several engine options including 4-cylinder, V-6, V-8 units but also a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Furthermore, the manufacturer will most likely fit it with a self-driving technology. The Q8’s main competitors will include the BMW X6, the Range Rover Velar, and the Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe.
Engines and performances of the 2019 Audi Q8
The upcoming 2019 Audi Q8 will be powered by several types of engines which include 4-cylinder, V-6, high-performance V-8, and a plug-in hybrid engines. The base is a 2.0-liter inline-4 also used in the Q7 and is able to make 252 horsepower. The next is a 3.0-liter V-6 turbo engine is able to develop 354 horsepower.
There will also be a plug-in hybrid engine which will combine a 3.0-liter V-6 engine and an electric motor 134 hp. The total output of this unit will be 443 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. As well, this engine will provide an all-electric range of 37 miles. Finally, the high-performance version will use a 4.0-liter V-8 twin-turbo engine. This one will be able to generate 500 horses.
Exterior and interior
The 2019 Audi Q8 will be based on the same MLB-Evo architecture as the Q7. However, compared to the Q7, the Q8 will be 0.3 inches shorter and 2.9 inches wider. As for the exterior design, the Audi Q8 will look very attractive and bold. The front end will be dominated by the massive octagonal grille and slim LED headlamps. On the rear, there will be modern full-width taillights.
Unlike the Q7, the 2019 Audi Q8 won’t get the third row and will offer a seating for four passengers. However, a five-seating configuration will be optional. There will be plenty of headroom even for the rear passengers despite a sloping roofline. Furthermore, the cargo room is good and offers the space of 22.2 cubic feet. In the tech department, the Q8 will arrive with a host of modern infotainment and safety features.
Release date and price
The 2019 Audi Q8 should go on sale sometime by the end of the year. The starting price of the new Q8 is expected to be around $57,000.
