The BMW manufacturer has introduced a sportier version of the BMW X1 crossover which will enter the market as the 2019 BMW X2. These two models will share the same engines, drivetrain, and transmission. However, although they will have much in common, the BMW X2 will get more attention in styling and handling over utility. Furthermore, the newest X2 will provide good acceleration and relatively good fuel efficiency for a crossover. It is reasonably priced but by adding more optional features, it might get a bit expensive. As well, a handful of safety equipment is optional and pricey.
The main rivals of the upcoming X2 will be BMW X1, Audi Q3, Volvo XC40, Jaguar E-Pace, and Mercedes-Benz GLA class.
2019 BMW X2 powertrain and performance
The 2019 BMW X2 will be equipped with one single option which also powers the BMW X1. It is a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine. This unit is capable of making 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It is coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission and comes standard with front-wheel drive system. However, the all-wheel drive system is also available. As for the acceleration, it is able to reach 60 mph in around 6.2 seconds. Speaking of the fuel economy, it gets 21 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.
Design of exterior and interior
The 2019 BMW X2 will look like a sportier alternative of the BMW X1. It will sit lower and will be shorter than the X1. As well, the X2 will get more stylish and sleeker body design. On the front end, we will notice the slightly different design of the brand’s well-known kidney grille and full LED headlamps. Below the grille, there will be larger air intakes. The rear end will get a standard spoiler which will look more aggressive on the M Sport X version.
The cabin of the 2019 BMW X2 will be less spacious than the X1 but it will provide more comfort especially for the front-seat passengers. The X2 will arrive with standard sport seats which will be 10-way power adjustable and will have adjustable bolsters. Furthermore, the rear seats will also offer plenty of space and will be easy to access thanks to the wide doors. The cargo room will also be smaller and will offer the room of 27.1 cubic feet. With the rear seats folded down, there is a cargo space of 58.7 cubes.
On the center of the dash, there is a 6.5-inch screen for the infotainment system. Among standard equipment, there is leatherette upholstery, 10-way power-adjustable seats, an AM/FM/CD audio system, a rearview camera, USB, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps and fog lights, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The M Sport X package will include a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry and start, satellite radio, 19-inch wheels, an M Sport steering wheels, and so on. A Premium package will add an 8.8-inch display with navigation, heated front seats, and a head-up display. As well, there will be several more packages in the offer.
Release date and price
It is still not clear when the 2019 BMW X2 will go on sale. Its starting price will be around $36,500 and will optional features it will go up to $53,000.
