In order to stay close to its main rivals such as Jaguar F-Pace, Mercedes-Benz GLC, and Audi Q5, the German carmaker has given a significant upgrade to its compact luxury SUV which has entered the showrooms as the 2018 BMW X3. So, how the 2018 version has been improved in almost every segment, the newest 2019 BMW X3 will represent the second model year of the next-gen model. Therefore, any significant changes won’t be applied this time.
After the X3 has entered the third generation, it has received many upgrades. First, it now features more power under its hood, comes standard with all-wheel drive, and provides an impressive drive dynamics. The interior is more refined with luxurious materials and top-notch technology. The cargo space has been slightly increased. It is because of the larger wheelbase but the interior space has remained pretty much the same. Furthermore, it is available in two versions: the xDrive30i and the sportier M40i. The first one is ideal for everyday driving while the BMW X3 M40i will be more powerful and more off-road capable. So, the 2019 model year will most likely inherit the same design and specification of the current version.
2019 BMW X3 engines and performances
For the 2019 BMW X3, there will be two engines available, just like for the current model. So, the base X3 xDrive30i will feature a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. This unit will deliver 248 horses and 258 lb-ft of torque. It will be connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission. As for the fuel consumption, it is estimated to be 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The stronger unit will be found in the X3 M40i. It is a 3.0-liter inline-6 turbocharged engine. This powertrain will be able to produce 355 horses and the torque of 369 pound-feet. It will use the same an 8-speed automatic gearbox. This version gets 20/27 mpg in the city/highway drive. Both engines will arrive with all-wheel drive system as standard.
Exterior and interior design
The current generation of the X3 has slightly grown in size compared to the previous generation model, but nothing radically. Still, it looks very well proportioned and features a wagon-like shape. The whole front fascia is better sculpted with revised grille and headlamps. The 18-inch wheels are standard while the X3 is also available with 20- and 21-inch wheels which give it more attractive appearance. The X3 M40i will feature more aggressive look in general with deeper bumpers, larger wheels and so on.
The interior of the 2019 BMW X3 is very roomy and there is an impressive space for both front and rear passengers and the cargo too. A large 10.3-inch touchscreen dominates the dashboard.
The standard equipment in the X3 will include power features, AM/FM/CD audio system, Bluetooth, a rearview camera, automatic climate control, power front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, and reclining rear seats. On the M Sport Package, you will also find LED headlamps, a panoramic roof, satellite radio, keyless entry, a sporty steering wheel, and so on.
