The BMW’s X3-based small SUV is finally here. It is the upcoming 2019 BMW X4 which has been spied without any camouflage. The current BMW X4 has been on the market since 2015 and it hasn’t been upgraded since then. So, the upcoming X4 is already in the works and it will probably arrive sometime during next year.
Judging by the spy photos, the X4 will once again be based on the smaller X3 model as before. As well, they will also ride on the brand’s new platform designed in 2016. This platform will make it lighter and will also provide more engine options. The car maker has announced that the X3 will be available with an electric drivetrain. So, besides the traditional engines, the X4 should also offer a plug-in hybrid version as well. Visually, we will also notice some adjustments which be based on the 8-Series Concept design. Inside the cabin, there will be many similarities with the X3 model. Furthermore, the X4 M40I M version will be included in this redesign too.
The main rivals of the X4 will be Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, Land Rover Range Rover Evoque and Porsche Macan.
2019 BMW X4 engines and performances
When it comes to the engine, the 2019 BMW X4 will most likely share the same engines as the X3. This means that there will be a 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder units in the offer. The base one should be a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged unit which in the X3 is able to make 248 horses. The more powerful will be a 3.0-liter inline-6 twin-turbo engine. This one will have the output of 355 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Both engines will pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission. And the all-wheel drive configuration will be standard.
On the other hand, we are pretty sure that the new BMW will also arrive with a plug-in hybrid unit under its hood. However, any further information is still not available.
Design of exterior and interior
The upcoming 2019 BMW X4 will now ride on the brand’s newly developed modular platform called CLAR which is also used in the X3 model. This will surely affect its weight, so this time it is expected to be lighter.
When it comes to exterior design, the X4 is very similar to the X3 model. However, the 2019 model year will feature some changes all over the body. Those will include new design of the taillights and the bumper a so as the large oval-shaped quad exhaust outlets. On the front, there will be slightly revised, larger grille, thin headlamps and bigger air intakes. This will make it look more aggressive than before.
Speaking of the interior, the 2019 BMW X4 will also be based on the X3 model. There aren’t any specific details except the same, large 10.25-inch touchscreen which will dominate the dashboard. The drivers could control it with the voice activation.
Release date and price
The 2019 BMW X4 will be presented sometime during next year. Its price, unfortunately, hasn’t been revealed.
