The next generation of the BMW’s popular crossover SUV has already been spied during its testing. It is the well-known X5 model which will also be offered with the high-performance model called X5 M. So, this time we will talk about the newest 2019 BMW X5 M.
Just like the standard version of the X5 model, the X5 M will bring various upgrades. It will represent the next, fourth-generation model so the changes are inevitable. Firstly, they will be based on the new platform since the current model rides on the architecture which dates since 2007. Thanks to this new platform, the BMW will be significantly lighter, better to handle and funnier to drive. Furthermore, there would also be some upgrades in the engine department where will be placed an upgraded version of the current V-8 unit. Of course, the styling updates are very likely to be seen as well. The cabin of the new X5 M will also get some adjustments with new features and regarding comfort.
Engine and performance of the 2019 BMW X5 M
Under the hood of the 2019 BMW X5 M will be placed an upgraded version of the same engine which powers the current model. It is a 4.4-liter V-8 twin-turbo engine. This unit will be able to produce more than 600 horses and 570 pound-feet of torque. For instance, the current version has the output of 567 hp and the torque of 553 lb-ft. The engine will be mated to a revised version of a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. It will be able to it 60 mpg in just 3.8 seconds which is pretty amazing. The all-wheel drive system will be standard. However, the rear-wheel drive configuration will also be available.
Platform, exterior, and interior design
The newest 2019 BMW X5 M will be switched to a new platform. It is the BMW’s new CLAR (Cluster Architecture) platform which also underpins the X3, 5-Series, 6-Series GT, and 7-Series models. Thanks to this new architecture, the new X5 M will be significantly lighter although it will grow in a size a bit.
As for the external appearance, the 2019 X5 M will feature many upgrades. Those will include the revised well-known kidney grille, larger air intakes, new headlamps and sportier bumper on the front. On the rear end, there will be also new bumper, revised exhaust pipes, and restyled taillights. Furthermore, we will also notice larger wheels and different design of the “M” badges.
The cabin of the 2019 BMW X5 M will be cozier than before and will provide more legroom for all passengers. The seats will be sportier and will ensure more comfort too. The dashboard will be revised but it will most likely receive the same 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen as the current model. This display will provide various the features such as navigation, entertainment features and so on.
Release date and price
The standard X5 should arrive later this year, while the 2019 BMW X5 M should go on sale after that. Its price should be slightly higher than the one of the current model. We estimate it to be around $103,000.
