The best words which define the BMW X6 crossover SUV are the attractive style, luxurious interior, and strong powertrains. It is a vehicle with higher seating position which features a sloping roofline and it is more fun-to-drive than its sibling X5 which is a more family-oriented car. However, because of the sloping roofline, the X6 doesn’t provide generous cargo room or either the ample space for the rear passengers. But despite that, if you’re not planning to carry more than four people or haul something large, then the X6 could be a good choice. The carmaker has just released the 2018 BMW X6 which brought just some small changes. Those include more equipment which will be grouped in several trim levels. Those are base, Premium, M Sport and Executive. As well, it will feature a standard rearview camera and upgraded iDrive system. However, according to the latest news, the German manufacturer is planning to introduce the newest 2019 BMW X6.
The 2019 BMW X6 is also expected to arrive with minimal upgrades since the major redesign is set for the year of 2021. This next generation of this model should arrive with significant weight savings which will improve general performance of the vehicle and major technological upgrades.
The main competitors of the X6 will be Jeep Grand Cherokee, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, Mercedes-Benz GLE Class, Volvo XC90 and Audi Q7.
2019 BMW X6 engines and performances
The 2019 BMW X6 will feature the same engines as the outgoing model, and there will be several options to choose from. So, the base model will be available as the sDrive35i which comes with rear-wheel drive and xDrive35i which will arrive with the all-wheel-drive system. They will use a 3.0-liter inline-6 twin-turbo engine. This unit is able to generate around 300 horses. The X6 xDrvie50i will arrive with standard all-wheel drive configuration and a 4.4-liter V-8 twin-turbo powertrain. This engine will have the output of 445 horses and 480 pound-feet of torque. Furthermore, it will be able to hit 60 mpg in 4.7 seconds.
All the engines will pair with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The last option is the same 4.4-liter V-8 which will power the X6 M version. This engine will be able to deliver 567 horses and the torque of 553 pound-feet which is great. Unfortunately, the X6 is still not available with a plug-in hybrid or diesel engines.
As for the fuel efficiency, the most economical version is the XDrive35i with the ratings of 18/24/20 mpg. With the rear-wheel drive, this unit gets 18/25/21 mpg. The xDrvie50i is rated at 15 mpg in the city, 21 mpg on the highway and 17 mpg combined. The X6 M gets 14/19/16 mpg in the city/highway/combined drive.
Design of exterior and interior
When it comes to exterior, the 2019 BMW X6 will feature the same styling of the current model. The X6 is generally very attractive with a sleek profile and a sloping roofline. The front end of the vehicle is very similar to the X5, but there the similarities stop. The X6 will ride on the 19-inch alloy wheels.
The interior of the 2019 BMW X6 will be sufficiently spacious to welcome up to five or better four passengers comfortably. The front seats are very comfortable and multi-adjustable which is unfortunately not the case with the second row of seats because of the sloping roofline. The seats are upholstered in leather even in the base trim. So, the second row is a bit tight and there isn’t sufficient headroom. The cargo space is also a bit limited.
As for the equipment, the base model comes with power front seats, heated front seats etc. The Premium Package will add keyless ignition, wireless charging and satellite radio. The M Sport will include bolstered seats while the Executive package will add air conditioned seats, Harman/Kardon audio, full LED headlamps etc. An air suspension system and Bang & Olufsen speakers will be optional. Speaking of the safety, the X6 will include airbags, a rearview camera, stability and traction control systems as standard. The optional equipment will be the forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a surround-view camera and many other more.
Release date and price
The carmaker hasn’t revealed when the newest 2019 BMW X6 will hit the market. The price should be similar to the one of the current version. It starts at around $63,000.
