In the last couple of years, the BMW Company has unveiled many new models and upgraded versions. However, the whole lineup somehow lacked a full size SUV. So lately, there have been speculations about the new large crossover SUV which German car maker is planning to introduce. Finally the new 2019 BMW X7 is confirmed and has just been revealed to the public at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The new three-row X7 Concept previews what we can expect from the production version of the brand’s newest SUV. Visually, the upcoming X7 will borrow some design cues from the rest of the BMW SUV lineup. However, in order to emphasize its size, the car maker has given it some extra details such as larger wheels etc. Under the hood, the X7 concept is powered with a electrified engine, precisely a plug-in hybrid unit. Of course, we can expect the traditional drivetrain after the production starts.
The strongest rivals of the X7 will be Mercedes-Benz GLS, Volvo XC90, Audi Q7, Infiniti QX80, Cadillac Escalade, Lexus LX, Land Rover Range Rover and Lincoln Navigator.
2019 BMW X7 drivetrain
Under the hood of the 2019 BMW X7 will be offered with several types of engines. The concept model features a plug-in hybrid unit under its hood. This drivetrain combines a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged gasoline engine, the same as in X5 and 3 Series, and an electric motor and a battery. This unit can produce around 322 horsepower. However, the exact range is still not available. On the other hand, the production version will be also available with a range of turbocharged V-6 and V-8 twin-turbocharged units. Those will most likely be a 3.0-liter V-6 diesel and a 4.4-liter V-8 twin-turbo engines.
Platform, exterior and interior design
The newest 2019 BMW X7 will ride on the BMW’s CLAR modular platform, the same one which underpins the 7 series. This architecture is mostly made of lightweight carbon fiber.
When it comes to exterior, the X7 will borrow styling from the other brand’s SUVs but it will be much larger. So, to accentuate its size, the car maker has fitted it with 23-inch wheels. Looking from the side, both front and rear fascias will be more vertical and upright. The much larger brand’s well-known kidney grille dominates the front end. As well, there is a pair of slim headlamps which will use laser LED technology. On the rear, we will notice slim taillights too and dual square exhaust outlets.
Inside, the 2019 BMW X7 is very spacious offering three rows of seats. The cabin is very cozy too and modern. It has large windows and a panoramic sunroof which makes cabin very light. The seats are upholstered in leather and supportive. Although the space in the third row seems a bit tight in the concept version, the production model will most likely improve this area. Furthermore, there will be screen for all six seats with infotainment system.
Release date and price
The 2019 BMW X7 should go on sale sometime during next year. The price is still unavailable.
