The Chevrolet Company has confirmed the all new mid size crossover which will stand between the smaller Chevy Equinox and larger Traverse models. It is the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer which has been caught during its testing where it could be seen many similarities with the General Motor’s Acadia model.
The upcoming Blazer will share many design cues with the GMC Acadia model so as dimensions since they will both share same underpinnings. Its exterior styling will be based on the Chevy’s latest design language. Furthermore, like the Acadia the Blazer will arrive with standard two-row seating configuration while it will also be available with three rows of seats. As well, the new Chevy will feature latest infotainment and safety systems too. Besides that, what will also be in common between these two models are the same engines.
The main rivals of the new Chevy will be Nissan Murano, Ford Edge, Kia Sorento, Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota Highlander, Dodge Journey, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Hyundai Santa Fe Sport.
2019 Chevrolet Blazer engines and performance
When it comes to the engine, like we have previously said, the upcoming 2019 Chevrolet Blazer will most likely use the same engines as the GMC Acadia. This means that it should be powered with two types of engines. So, the base unit should be 2.5-liter inline four which will be able to make around 194 horses. The more powerful option will be a 3.6-liter V-6. This one will be able to produce 310 horsepower. The front-wheel drive will be optional while the all-wheel drive system will be standard.
On the other hand, some sources also claim that the new Blazer will use new engines. Those will include a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine and a 3.6-liter V-6 unit. These engines will pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
Platform, exterior and interior design
The upcoming 2019 Chevrolet Blazer will ride on the new platform which also underpins the GMC Acadia. It is the new C1XX architecture which will make these models lighter compared to the other models in its class. The weight reduction will lead to the better fuel economy, aerodynamics so as the handling and general performance of the vehicle.
Speaking of the exterior design, the new Chevy will also borrow some styling elements from the Acadia model. Of course, it will feature some unique details. Furthermore, the new Blazer should be available in two trims which will differ in some styling details. For example, on the rear, the one will feature circular exhaust outlets and smaller wheels while the other will get angular exhaust pipes and more pronounced design of the wheels.
As for the interior, the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer will be able to welcome five passengers in two rows of seats. However, the three-seat configuration which is able to accommodate seven occupants will be available too. Moreover, we can also expect Chevy’s latest MyLink infotainment system and plenty of safety features as well.
