The Chevrolet manufacturer has done a pretty good job with the latest 2018 Equinox model. It has arrived better in every sense of the word. It is lighter and smaller than before, its features more aggressive styling, and offers more equipment in every trim level. However, the latest reports indicate that the Company is also planning to launch the newest 2019 Chevy Equinox. Since the 2018 model has been fully refreshed, the carmaker won’t be applying any major changes.
The Chevy Traverse is a compact crossover SUV which is offered in several trim levels. Those are L, LS, LT and Premier trims. The 2019 Equinox shouldn’t be much different from the 2018 model year. The only upgrades which are expected are, perhaps, a few new exterior colors and new color combinations inside the cabin. Furthermore, there could also be small changes considering technology and equipment while the powertrain will remain unchanged. The newest Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4, and Subaru Forester will be its key competitors.
Engines and performances of the 2019 Chevy Equinox
The 2019 Chevy Equinox will receive the same engines as the 2018 model, and there will be several engines available. They will all pair with a six-speed automatic transmission and there will be a choice between front- and all-wheel drive configurations.
The base is a 1.5-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine. This unit will be able to make 170 horses and 203 pound-feet of torque. With FWD, it gets 26 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. With all-wheel drive, it is rated at 24/30 mpg.
The second unit is a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged. This engine has the output of 252 hp and the torque of 260 pound-feet. Its fuel economy is estimated to be 22/29 mpg with front-wheel drive while with AWD it is 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
The last option is a 1.6-liter inline-4 turbocharged diesel engine. This powertrain is able to generate 137 hp and 240 pound-feet of torque. It gets 28/39 mpg with front-wheel drive. With all-wheel drive, it is 28 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway.
Exterior and interior design
The 2019 Chevy Equinox will keep the same external appearance of the 2018 Equinox which has been redesigned in order to look more competitive. Its proportions are nearly perfect and the whole body features sharp lines and nice chrome accents. The only novelties we could expect are the new exterior colors.
The cabin of the 2019 Chevy Equinox is refined, a well-equipped and comfortable place for all the passengers. The front and rear seats are equally cozy and the rear ones are even offered with heaters. The dashboard features a 7.0-inch touchscreen with the infotainment system and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The base L model will come with Bluetooth, a rearview camera, keyless locks and ignition, USB, audio system and active noise cancellation. Among safety equipment, there will be 10 airbags and stability control. The higher trims will add heated and ventilated seats, additional USB, larger 8.0-inch screen, and wireless phone charging.
Release date and price
The 2019 Chevy Equinox should arrive in late 2018. The pricing should remain unchanged and it starts at around $24,500.
