The Ford manufacturer has recently presented its newest crossover SUV at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. It is the 2019 Ford Edge Sport which will now feature a new name and we will know as the Edge ST. The Ford Edge is a mid-size crossover which is roomy and able to welcome five passengers. It offers great handling and a car-like ride with very good off-road manners as well. Furthermore, it is loaded with advanced infotainment and safety features for excellent comfort and protection of all occupants.
The 2019 model year will arrive with the new name of the Sport version and it is the Edge ST. The upcoming Edge ST will feature a different design of the body which will include larger wheels, wider grille, and new dual exhaust outlets. Generally, the whole body will look more aggressive. Inside, there will also be some revisions including upgraded infotainment and more standard equipment. When it comes to the engine, we can expect extra horses, sport-tuned suspension, and larger engine. Besides the Sport version, the Ford Edge will be available in several trim levels which will include SE, SEL, and Titanium models.
Engine and performance of the 2019 Ford Edge Sport
The upcoming 2019 Ford Edge Sport will be powered by a stronger engine this time. It is a 2.7-liter V-6 twin-turbo engine. This unit will be able to develop 335 horses and the torque of 380 pound-feet. It will work with an 8-speed automatic transmission and the all-wheel drive system will be standard.
On the other hand, the other versions will be fitted with two engines. The one will be a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbo which will produce 245 hp and 275 pound-feet of torque. The second is a 3.5-liter V-6 which will be able to generate 280 ponies and the torque of 250 lb-ft.
Design of exterior and interior
The newest 2019 Ford Edge Sport will differ from the standard version and will feature more aggressive and muscular design. The front end will receive a wider mesh grille, larger bumper, and restyled headlamps. We will also notice revised dual exhaust pipes and new bumper on the rear end. Furthermore, it will ride on large 20-inch wheels while the 21-inch ones with summer performance tires will be optional.
Moving to the interior, the 2019 Ford Edge Sport will get more bolstered sporty front seats. It is roomy and able to accommodate up to five passengers; the cargo space is also pretty good. The seats will be upholstered in cloth while the higher trims will add leather upholstery. The dashboard will be fitted with an 8.0-inch touchscreen with latest Sync 3 infotainment system.
The standard equipment will include keyless entry, USB, Bluetooth, audio system with 6 speakers, a rearview camera, push-button start, wireless smartphone charging, and so on. In the safety front, there will be post-collision braking, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, pre-collision assist, blind-spot monitoring etc.
Release date and price
The 2019 Ford Edge Sport should hit the dealerships this summer. The pricing is not yet announced, but it shouldn’t differ much from the current model.
