Although it has been all-new for the 2017 model year, and the current model has just appeared on the market, the carmaker has announced the newest version of its Honda CR-V SUV. However, this time it will most likely arrive with the new hybrid powertrain for the first time. And this model should hit the market as the 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid.
2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid engine and performance
The 2019 model year is expected to get with its familiar 4-cylinder engines, but it is very likely that the carmaker will bring the hybrid engine also to the United States. The hybrid version of this model has already been presented at the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show. So, the newest 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid should use a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine in a combination with an electric motor. Unfortunately, we still don’t have exact specifications of this unit. However, the hybrid model will most likely be available with both front-wheel and all-wheel drive layouts.
On the other hand, the standard model will return with the same engines and there are two options. The one is a 2.4-liter inline-4 which is able to produce 184 hp and 180 pound-feet of torque. The second is a 1.5-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine. This one has the output of 190 hp and 179 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are mated to a continuously variable transmission. Furthermore, they are both offered with front-wheel and all-wheel drive systems.
Design of exterior and interior
The CR-V SUV has been completely revised in 2017, so the 2019 version won’t get any changes now. The 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid will look like the standard model which has gotten a more muscular design and more aggressive design of the wheels. And the higher trim levels will ride on the larger alloy wheels. The front end features wrap-around headlights and a grille with chrome and black plastic details.
The interior of the 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid is perfectly packed and provides very good space, even more than expected. It seats five, and the second row also provides great legroom. The higher trim levels will add a 12-way power adjustable driver’s seat which is very comfortable even at longer rides. The seats are covered in fabric in the entry-level trim. The higher trim levels will be available with leather upholstery.
The standard equipment in the base LX model includes Bluetooth, automatic climate control, audio system with four speakers, a 5.0-inch color screen, a rearview camera, and cruise control. The hybrid version is expected to be offered in EX, EX-L, and Touring trim levels. The EX trim comes with a 7.0-inch touchscreen with infotainment system, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay connectivity, keyless ignition, a power moonroof, an extra USB, and a 12-way power driver’s seat. The EX-L will add a power liftgate, a garage door opener, satellite radio, premium audio, power for passenger’s seat, and leather upholstery. The navigation system will be optional. The Touring trim will also include a hands-free tailgate, automatic windshield wipers, an upgraded audio with a subwoofer and larger wheels.
Release date and price
Even it is not yet officially confirmed, the 2019 Honda CR-V Hybrid should appear sometime at the end of this year. The price is expected to be in a range of $25,000 to $35,000 depending on a trim level.
