It seems that the rumors about the Honda’s newest crossover SUV appeared to be true. The brand-new 2019 Honda Passport has been spied on the streets wearing heavy camouflage. However, judging by the photos taken, the new Passport will stand between the Pilot and CR-V models. However, it will mostly be based on the new Pilot with which it will share platform, exterior, and interior design. It should also use the same engine; However, some sources also claim that the Passport will also receive a hybrid unit at some point in future.
2019 Honda Passport powertrain and performance
The latest news indicates that the all-new 2019 Honda Passport will get the same engine as the Pilot model. It is a 3.5-liter V-6 engine which in the Honda Pilot is able to produce 282 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. However, the 9-speed automatic gearbox will also be available. As on the Pilot model, the new Passport will be offered with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. So, we expect the similar capability as well.
Furthermore, some sources also claim that the manufacturer will also offer a hybrid version of the newest Passport. However, for now, we don’t have any specific details about the type of powertrain and performance.
Design of exterior
The Honda carmaker is currently testing its mid-size crossover SUV, the 2019 Honda Passport. It has recently been spotted during its testing and wearing heavy camouflage. However, despite the covering, we could notice some details about its design. In the terms of size, the Honda Passport will stand between the Honda CR-V and Pilot models. As the matter of fact, the Passport will ride on the same platform as the Pilot but it will feature smaller wheelbase and shorter rear overhang. Furthermore, the front end will be very similar to the Honda Pilot as well, so as the taillights. However, the Passport will get a sportier design of the mesh grille while the Pilot sports the chrome bar grille. There will also be sharp and wider LED headlamps.
Moreover, the Honda will be available in six exterior colors. Those are ebony black, canal bright blue, towering intense white, huntsman eco-helpful, vivid sterling silver, and palazzo red.
Interior design and technology
The all-new 2019 Honda Passport has the room to place five passengers comfortably. The cargo area is also pretty good which makes it a good choice for families. The Passport will also provide sufficient leg room for all the occupants. The dashboard seems identical to the one of the Honda Pilot and it features the same vents and the same position of the main screen. Moreover, we expect the latest infotainment system too. The interior will be quiet and will be fitted with nice wood-grain trim.
Release date and price
The 2019 Honda Passport has just been spied during its testing, but we cannot say precisely when it will be presented to the world. However, it should be later this year. The price is also not known, but it should be between $27,000 and $28,000.
