The Honda Pilot is the brand’s very popular three-row SUV which is especially favorite among families. We could call it a minivan except it doesn’t feature sliding doors on the side. But generally, it is a good choice for all those who need spacious cabin, ample cargo space and, excellent safety ratings. The current model is still in its third generation which has made its premiere at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show. The carmaker has presented the new 2018 Honda Pilot with a few upgrades. However, the newest version of this family SUV has been spotted during its testing in California. It is the 2019 Honda Pilot which is expected to arrive with some styling changes both inside and out. Based on the place of the camouflage, the upcoming Pilot will arrive with some changes on the front fascia mostly, but we can also expect minor refreshments on the rear.
The Honda Pilot is generally very functional vehicle which provides plenty of space inside the cabin which is in the same time very well equipped. Considering safety equipment, the Pilot takes one of the highest places in its class. Under the hood, it features a strong V-6 unit which pair with either 6-speed automatic in the base or a nine-speed automatic gearbox in the higher trims.
The just released 2018 Honda Pilot has arrived pretty much unchanged compared to the current model which is still fresh and there was no need for changes this time. It is available in several trim levels which include LX, EX, EX-L, Touring and Elite models.
However, the newest 2019 Honda Pilot should arrive with some minimal but noticeable changes at least in the exterior design. When it comes to the interior, there is still no any official information but we assume that there won’t be some large differences. The key competitors of the Pilot will be Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota Highlander, Hyundai Santa Fe, Chevy Traverse and Ford Explorer.
2019 Honda Pilot engine and performance
The 2019 Honda Pilot will probably arrive with the same engine as the current version. It is a 3.5-liter V-6 engine with direct injection. This unit will be able to produce 280 horses and the torque of 262 pound-feet. In the base trims, this unit will pair with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. However, the higher trims will be mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The front -wheel drive system will be standard while the all-wheel drive will be available too.
As for the fuel economy, the FWD Pilot with a six-speed automatic gets 19/27/22/ mpg while with AWD it gets 18/26/21/ mpg. With a 9-speed automatic, it is rated at 20/27/23 mpg with front-wheel drive. With all-wheel drive it is estimated to be 19 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway and 22 mpg combined.
Design of exterior and interior
The Honda Pilot is generally an eye-catching and very attractive vehicle with more rounded shape and more elegant styling. The 2019 Honda Pilot has been caught during its testing and based on the camouflage, it is going to arrive with some small adjustments. Most of the changes will be made on the front fascia including new headlamps and a revised grille. Perhaps the new Honda could also receive new taillights on the rear fascia. The standard model will ride on the 17-inch wheels while the larger 20-inch ones will be available also.
The interior of the 2019 Honda Pilot will be spacious as before featuring three rows of seats. Even the third row will be suitable for adults which often is not the case with the other three-row crossovers. The front seats are particularly comfortable and spacious and in the higher trims, the Pilot will get leather upholstery. The cloth upholstery will be standard for the base model. The dashboard will feature a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
As for the equipment, it comes standard with Bluetooth, basic audio system, USB, air conditioning, cruise control, AM/FM, and power features. The EX will add remote start, satellite radio, two USB ports more, three-zone climate control, a right-side-view camera and a power driver seat. The Touring model will arrive with parking sensors, navigation, ambient lighting, a Blu-ray entertainment system and so on. Finally, the Elite trim will include LED headlamps, cooled front seats and heated second-row seats and automatic high beams.
Release date and price
The manufacturer still hasn’t announced the exact date of the arrival of the new 2019 Honda Pilot. Its price should be very similar to the one of the outgoing model which starts at around $31,000.
