The Hyundai Santa Fe has been fully reworked for the 2019 model year, but we all wonder if the new 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport will get the same treatment. However, the 2017 model year has been slightly reworked visually when it has gotten a new design of the grille and larger “Sport” badge. So, we sincerely doubt that this time we will see some major revisions. Furthermore, the 2018 model year has arrived with the new Value Package which included heated front seats and side mirrors, automatic climate control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, push-button start, and proximity key. So, with all these upgrades, the 2019 model year is expected to be a carryover.
Speaking of the engine, the Santa Fe Sport is available with two decent units and the newest version will most likely keep the same options. The interior of this popular crossover SUV is practical and well built with organized and reachable control and high-quality materials. There is also a good amount of cargo space which makes it a good choice for trips.
Nissan Rogue Sport, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Chevy Equinox, and Ford Escape will remain its main rivals on the market.
Engines and performances of the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport
The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport will be powered by the same engines as the current model. There are two options depending on a trim level. The base is a 2.4-liter inline-4 engine. This unit has the output of 185 horses and 178 pound-feet of torque. The second is a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine which is able to make 240 ponies and 260 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and available with front- and all-wheel-drive configurations.
As for the fuel economy, the first unit gets 21/27 mpg with front-wheel drive. With all-wheel drive, it is rated at 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The second engine is rated at 20/28 mpg with the front-wheel drive while with AWD it is estimated to be 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
Exterior and interior design
The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport will feature the same sleek and sharp design as the outgoing model. It features a new grille with angular headlamps on the front and sleek taillights and dual exhaust pipes on the rear. The base model rides on the 17-inch alloy wheels. However, the higher trims will get 18-inch as standard and 19-inch alloys will be optional.
The cabin of the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is functional, well designed and quality. The space for the passengers is rather good so as the cargo space. But if you need more space for the luggage, the rear seats can be folded down. The dashboard is equipped with a 5-inch color LCD display while a 7.0-inch infotainment screen and an 8.0-inch touchscreen with navigation will be optional. The standard equipment will include an audio system with six speakers, USB, Bluetooth, an AM/FM/XM/CD player, heated mirrors and keyless entry. The higher trims will add leather, dual-zone climate control, blind-spot monitors, heated front seats, and so on.
Release date and price
We still cannot confirm the precise release date of the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The price should stay close to the current one and it starts at around $25,000.
