The Jeep Renegade blends an off-road capability, rugged appearance, and great performance in a compact SUV. It is the brand’s smallest and most affordable SUVs in the lineup and it is available in four trim levels. Those are the Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk. As well, it provides excellent ground clearance and it is offered with all-wheel drive layout which makes it a good performer in any type of terrain. The 2018 model year has brought improvements in the technology front. A rearview camera now comes standard in all the models. The Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk versions have gotten a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Uconnect infotainment and Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatibility as standard too. And these versions get an optional 8.4-inch screen with navigation. Furthermore, the center console has been revised so there is more space for the storage.
On the other hand, the carmaker has announced a mid-cycle refresh for its compact crossover which will enter the dealerships as the 2019 Jeep Renegade. The spy photos of the newest Renegade show that we can except changes in the exterior styling which will mostly be visible on the front fascia. As well, the upcoming Jeep might get some upgrades under the hood including the new engine and transmission.
Engine and performances of the 2019 Jeep Renegade
The current version is powered by two types of engines. The one is a 1.4-liter inline-4 turbocharged unit. This unit is able to deliver 160 hp and the torque of 184 pound-feet. It works with a 6-speed manual transmission. Mated to front-wheel drive, it gets 24/31 mpg. With AWD, it is rated at 24/31 mpg.
The next is a 2.4-liter inline-4 which has the output of 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox. There will also be new headlamps with LED daytime running lights and a new bumper too. We will also notice new side vents in the bumper. The rear end will mostly stay unchanged.
As for the interior design, we couldn’t see much on the photos. However, it seems that the 2019 Jeep Renegade will get a new and larger infotainment screen and revised HVAC controls. Furthermore, space should remain the same and it will be able to welcome up to five passengers.
