With handsome and futuristic design, luxurious interior and equipment, and a wide range of trim levels, the Lexus RX continues to be one of the most popular SUVs in its class. Alongside the standard model, the RX is also available with a hybrid engine and as the RX L, the extended version of this model. The RX has recently entered the next generation, so the upcoming 2019 Lexus RX 450h and RX 450h L shouldn’t receive any large upgrades this time.
2019 Lexus RX 450h and RX 450h L engine and performance
Under the hood of the upcoming 2019 Lexus RX 450h and RX 450h L will be placed the same hybrid engine which powers the current model. This hybrid engine combines a 3.5-liter V-6 engine with electric motors of 123 kWh and a battery pack. The gasoline engine will send power to the front wheels while the electric motors will power the rear ones. The V-6 engine will be able to produce 259 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque. However, the total output of the hybrid engine will be 308 horses. The engine will be linked to a continuously variable transmission and the all-wheel drive system will be standard.
As for the fuel economy, the RX 450h will get 31 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. However, the Lexus RX 450h L is rated at 29 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
Design of exterior and interior
The 2019 Lexus RX 450h and RX 450h L will get no changes this time since the current generation has been introduced last year. The hybrid version won’t differ from the standard model which features an attractive design with sharp lines all over the body. The front end is dominated by its large, spindle grille and sharp, elongated headlamps which make it look aggressive. The RX 450h differs from the RX 450h L in size. As to say, the RX L is slightly longer than the base model, for around 4.3 inches.
Stepping into the cabin of the 2019 Lexus RX 450h and RX 450h L, we will notice from the instant luxurious and well-equipped cabin. Its interior is functional, roomy, and made of high-quality materials. On the center of the dash, there is a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen for infotainment. All the seats are very comfortable and provide excellent head and leg room. The standard model comes with two-row seating configuration while the RX L has three rows of seats. The RX 450h L comes with the second-row captain’s chairs as standard. The cargo space is excellent and there are more than 18 cubic feet behind the rear seats.
The standard equipment of the RX includes LED headlamp, power front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, USB ports, an audio system with 9 speakers, and so on. However, the optional features of the hybrid model will include heated and ventilated seats, navigation, blind-spot monitors, and the panoramic roof. The safety equipment is great; it comes standard with a rearview camera, automatic emergency braking, active lane control, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams.
Release date and price
The 2019 Lexus RX 450h and RX 450h L should go on sale it late 2018. The price of the RX 450h will start at $54,000 while the RX 450h L will be around 51,600.
