The Lexus’s newest compact crossover SUV has just been fully revealed. It is the upcoming 2019 Lexus UX. This model will represent the entry level of the compact crossover lineup and it is placed below the Lexus NX. The Lexus UX was first unveiled as a concept model at the Paris Salon and it has just made its debut at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show.
This model shares the same underpinnings with the Toyota C-HR but it will feature a more aggressive appearance and sharper design. Furthermore, according to the Lexus manufacturer, thanks to this architecture, the UX will have the lower center of the gravity and with its rigid body, it will provide outstanding handling and maneuverability.
In terms of the dimensions, the UX model is almost a foot and a half shorter than the RX model. However, compared to its key competitors, the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA, the UX will be longer for a few inches. It will be offered in two variants which will include the UX 200 and UX 250h. These versions will differ in the type of engines. So, under the hood, there will be two options: the traditional and the hybrid powertrain. Unfortunately, the all-wheel drive system will only be available with a hybrid. But generally, the UX will look very attractive and handsome in both, inside and outside.
Engines and performances of the 2019 Lexus UX
We have just mentioned above that the newest 2019 Lexus UX will feature two engine options. So, the UX 200 version will use a 2.0-liter inline-4 petrol engine which will work with a continuously variable transmission. The front-wheel drive configuration will be standard. However, the carmaker still hasn’t revealed the output of this unit but according to some speculations, it should be able to make 168 ponies.
The next is the UX 250h which will be powered by a hybrid engine. This powertrain will be a combination of the same petrol engine, dual electric motors, and a nickel metal-hydride battery. The power will be sent to all four wheels. This unit will be able to deliver around 176 horses. Furthermore, it will also be coupled to a CVT.
Exterior and interior
The exterior design of the 2019 Lexus UX will mostly be based on the UX Concept model, except it will feature a slightly smaller but brand’s recognizable spindle grille. The whole body is very eye-catching with unique and dramatic styling and sharp lines. It will ride on standard 17-inch wheels while the optional F Sport package will add the larger 18-inch wheels. This package will also feature a restyled front fascia and a different design of the rear bumper.
Although they share the same platform, the upcoming 2019 Lexus UX will provide slightly roomier cabin than the Toyota C-HR. However, the space for the rear seat passengers will be a bit tight. The safety will be on the high level and all models come with automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control. The automatic high beams, road-sign recognition, and active lane control will be optional.
Release date and price
The 2019 Lexus UX should go on sale later this year or in early 2019. The price should be around $44,000.
