Positioned between the smaller Mazda CX-3 and the larger Mazda CX-5, the Mazda CX-4 looks very attractive and it is very similar to the handsome CX-5. Unfortunately, this model is available for the Chinese market only. It has been first presented to the public at the Beijing Motor Show in 2016, and it is based on the Mazda Koeru concept. The Mazda CX-4 not only uses the same platform as the Mazda CX-5 but they also share the same engine options. We have already written about the 2018 model year but this time we will review the newest 2019 Mazda CX-4. However, we assume that this upcoming version shouldn’t feature any major changes since it is still relatively new on the market. On the other hand, it might get changes in the tech department meaning that we could see more standard features.
Furthermore, like we have previously said, the CX-4 is only sold in the Chinese market and perhaps the production of the 2019 model year could be expanded for the other continents too. Visually, we expect no changes since it is still a good-looking and attractive.
2019 Mazda CX-4 engines and performances
Like we could guess, the 2019 Mazda CX-4 should continue with the same engines as before which also power the current Mazda CX-5. The one is a 2.0-liter inline-4 SkyActiv engine which is able to make 155 horses and the torque of 150 pound-feet. The second is a more powerful version and it is a 2.5-liter inline-4 SkyActiv unit. This one has the output of 184 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque. These engines are mated to a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The front-wheel drive system is standard while the all-wheel drive system will be optional.
Furthermore, some markets could also get a 2.0-liter inline-4 diesel powertrain which could be able to deliver either 147 hp and 280 pound-feet of torque or 173 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.
Design of exterior and interior
Speaking of the external appearance, the 2019 Mazda CX-4 should carry over the same design as its predecessor. It very much looks like a smaller version of the CX-5. It is well-proportioned, eye-catching, and very handsome. The front end will continue with the same shield-shaped grille, aggressive headlamps, and nicely sculpted hood. On the rear, there are larger taillights, sporty bumper, and exhaust pipes which are not integrated into the bumper like before.
Moving to the inside, the 2019 Mazda CX-4 is quality, comfortable and well-equipped. The dashboard is built pretty much identical to the one of the CX-5 model. It looks luxurious with nice aluminum trims, leather inserts, and interesting contrasting stitching. Furthermore, thanks to the larger rear windscreen, its visibility will be much improved. As for the equipment, the 2019 CX-4 should get more standard features and we will know more after the Company’s official announcement.
Release date and price
It is still not known precisely when the 2019 Mazda CX-4 should be available on the market. The price should remain similar to the one of its forerunner.
