The Mazda manufacturer is known for making very handsome and eye-catching vehicles, particularly sport utility vehicles. And, the CX-9 is perhaps one of the best-looking cars in its segment. However, the CX-9 is not just eye-catching but it is also fun to drive and it offers very spacious cabin which makes it suitable for large families. The carmaker has just released the new 2018 CX-9. However, according to the latest news, the Company is also working on the newest 2019 Mazda CX-9 which shouldn’t arrive with some major upgrades.
The Mazda CX-9 is a large crossover SUV which offers three rows of seats and it represents one of the most eye-catching vehicles in its segment. However, despite its dimensions, its cargo space is a bit limited in comparison to the other vehicles in its class. Inside the cabin, besides the roominess, it offers plenty of modern features and it looks more luxurious than it really costs. Under the hood, all the versions feature one single engine option and unfortunately, there aren’t any options more or a hybrid powertrain in the offer.
The 2018 Mazda CX-9 has debuted with only some small upgrades since the CX-9 has completely new for the 2016 model year. Then, it has been revised with new construction much lighter than before, revised exterior and upgraded materials for a more luxurious look of the cabin. So, the 2018 model year brought more safety equipment which is now standard on all trim levels. Those include blind spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and rear cross-traffic alert. As well, the brand’s G Vectoring Control is also standard in all versions. And finally, there is a new color for the exterior called Soul Red Crystal shade which replaced the old one-Soul Red Metallic.
The newest 2019 Mazda CX-9 will most likely arrive unchanged. However, the carmaker still hasn’t said anything about the changes, so we will have to wait for their official announcement. We can also expect that it will be available in the same trim levels which include Touring, Grand Touring, and Signature. The Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, Hyundai Santa Fe, Honda Pilot and Chevy Traverse will be its main rivals.
2019 Mazda CX-9 engine and performance
Speaking of the engine, we believe that the 2019 Mazda CX-9 should get the same engine as its forerunner; and there is one single option for all trims. It is a 2.5-liter inline-4 unit which is able to produce 250 horsepower and the torque of 310 pound-feet. The engine pairs with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and comes standard with front-wheel drive. However, an all-wheel-drive configuration will be available too.
As for the fuel economy, with front-wheel drive, it gets 22/28/24/ mpg. With all-wheel drive configuration, it is rated at 20 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway and 23 mpg combined.
Design of exterior and interior
The Mazda CX-9 is very handsome SUV with elegant and simple styling. It stands out for its long hood and slim headlamps. The new 2019 Mazda CX-9 shouldn’t differ much from the current model, and we can only expect some minor adjustments. The base model will ride on the standard 18-inch wheels while the Grand Touring will receive 20-inch ones.
The 2019 Mazda CX-9 is a spacious vehicle and offers three rows of seats. However, the third row is a bit crowded and it is most suitable for the children. The seats are sufficiently comfortable and wide but we must admit, also a bit firm. The cargo room offers the space of 14.4 cubic feet. But, with the folded third row, it has the room of 38.2 cubes. The base model comes with cloth upholstery while the Touring trims will add leather. As well, the dashboard will feature a standard 7.0-inch screen while the Touring will arrive with a larger 8.0-inch display with the infotainment system.
As for the equipment, it comes standard with Bluetooth, 18-inch wheels, power doors, locks and windows, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert and automatic emergency braking. The Touring trim will add power adjustable front seats, a power liftgate and so on. The Signature version will receive Bose audio system, LED headlamps, LED interior lighting and rosewood interior details.
Release date and price
Unfortunately, we still don’t have information about the release date of the upcoming 2019 Mazda CX-9. The pricing should be similar to the current model which starts at around $32,000.
