The all-new Mercedes GLB has been caught during the testing and from the spy shots, we can conclude that the brand’s latest SUV will be a combination of familiar boxy design and some modern new details. In terms of dimensions, the GLB will stand between the small GLA and the larger C-Class, GLC. However, when it comes to the styling, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLB will be inspired by the G-Class model.
The newest Mercedes GLB will use the same platform which is used in the A-Class and B-Class. In the car segment, it is classified as the compact SUV, but it will have a three-row seating configuration which should make it competitive and strong rival in its class. As well, it will offer the latest tech features and luxurious interior. Like the A-Class, the brand-new GLB will most likely offer similar engine options. And the range will consist of several 4-cylinder diesel and petrol units. Furthermore, a plug-in hybrid with modest all-electric range is also very likely to join the market at some point in future. The GLB’s main competitors will include BMW X2, Jeep Renegade, Volvo XC40, and Audi Q2.
Engines and performances of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLB
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLB will most likely use the same engines which power the newest A-Class model. And there will be several-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The base unit will be a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine which is able to deliver 163 horses and 184 pound-feet of torque. This engine will work with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic gearbox. The more powerful version will be a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder powertrain. This one will be able to produce 224 horsepower and the torque of 258 lb-ft. This engine will work with an automatic transmission only and will be available for the US market as well.
For the European market, there will be a diesel option also. It is a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine which will have the output of 116 horses and the torque of 192 pound-feet. This powertrain will work with a 7-speed automatic transmission.
On the other hand, the newest GLB will also be available with a plug-in hybrid engine, but we are still not informed about the exact specifications.
Exterior and interior
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLB will ride on the updated version of the MFA2 platform which underpins the A-Class and B-Class models too. Looking its exterior, the new GLB will feature a typical boxy, SUV shape which is inspired by the G-Class model. It will get angular lines all over the body, but it will look less aggressive. The grille will be large and rectangular and we could also notice V-shaped hood. On the rear, the tailgate seems completely vertical, and there are two-piece tail lamps which are similar to the ones found on GLC and GLA.
The cabin of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLB will look very similar to the one of the A-Class model. The dashboard will be covered with black fabric; it will feature a large, most likely 10.25-inch touchscreen with latest MBUX infotainment system. Furthermore, the upcoming Mercedes should arrive with a 64-color lighting system, wood trim, all-digital instrument cluster, navigation, voice control, and so on.
Release date and price
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLB should enter the market sometime during 2019. Its starting price should be in a range from $38,000-41,000.
