Whether you want a plug-in hybrid, a high-performance or a traditional version, the Mercedes-Benz GLE offers various options. It is a mid-size SUV which is perhaps one of the brand’s best sellers. And it is not a surprise since it has so much to offer. Its handling is rather good, it is a great choice for everyday driving, and it is rated with excellent safety records. The 2018 model year has entered the market already, but the newest version of this model also almost ready. It is the new 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE.
The upcoming Mercedes has been spotted testing wearing lots of camouflage. However, some details couldn’t be hidden such as new grille and headlamps. Furthermore, the carmaker has shown two versions of this model among which one might be the high-performance AMG model. As well, the new GLE will ride on the new platform and the interior should undergo some small revisions. As for the engine, the Mercedes should keep the same options which will be revised also and there will also be plug-in hybrid powertrain as one of the options.
2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE engines and performances
The new 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE will be available with several types of engines. The base will be a 3.5-liter V-6 engine which will be able to make 302 hp and the torque of 273 pound-feet. This unit will pair with a 7-speed automatic transmission and will be able to reach 60 mph in 7.5 seconds.
The next option will be a 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbo engine. This engine will be able to develop to make 385 horses and 384 pound-feet of torque. It will be mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. This unit will hit 60 mph in around 5.6 seconds.
The AMG version will be fitted with a 4.0-liter V-8 twin-turbo engine. This powertrain will be able to generate 550 horses and 516 pound-feet of torque. Its top speed will be 155 mph and it will be able to hit 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. Furthermore, there will also be a plug-in hybrid version which will combine the V-6 engine, electric motors and lithium-ion batteries. This one will have the output of 436 hp and will provide an all-electric range of 19 miles.
Exterior and interior
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE will be based on the new platform called MHA and will be the second model to be underpinned by it besides the GLC model.
The external look of the next-gen 2019 GLE will be refreshed with a more rounded shape. There will be changes on the front fascia with the new, larger grille and more angular headlamps. The rear fascia has been fully covered so we cannot reveal much. However, we assume that it might get thinner and sportier design of the taillights and reshaped bumper.
Inside, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE will borrow similar styling as the E-Class. The dashboard should be slightly revised and will feature the dual-screen layout and the latest infotainment system.
Release date and price
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE should go on sale during this year. The price will probably be higher than the price of the current model which is in a range from $53,000 to $130,000.
