The Mitsubishi Pajero is the brand’s flagship SUV which has been present on the market for almost four decades. And it is still considered as one of the best vehicles with outstanding off-road capabilities. But that isn’t its only advantage; the Pajero is a great hauler since it has a very roomy cabin with three-row seating configuration. The current model is now in its fourth generation which has been introduced back in 2006. Since then, the Pajero hasn’t been redesigned except some really minor revisions so the manufacturer will probably introduce the next-generation model with the newest 2019 Mitsubishi Pajero.
The fifth generation of the Mitsubishi Pajero is supposed to arrive with significant upgrades in almost every segment. Although this is not yet officially confirmed, the new Pajero should receive styling upgrades in order to look fresher and more competitive. The interior as well should be revamped so it gets a more modern design with updated safety and infotainment equipment. In the engine department, the Pajero should feature the same engines used in the current model. However, there are some rumors about the plug-in hybrid version as well, but any specific details are still not available. The current Pajero is available in three trim levels which include the base GLX, mid-range GLS, and the range-topping Exceed.
2019 Mitsubishi Pajero powertrain
The 2019 Mitsubishi Pajero should use the same unit which powers the current version. All the models come with one engine option and it is a 3.2-liter 4-cylinder turbo diesel unit. This engine is capable of producing 189 horses and the torque of 325 pound-feet. This engine is mated to a five-speed automatic and comes standard with all-wheel drive configuration. On the other hand, since this should be the next-generation model, we have heard that it will also arrive with a plug-in hybrid engine under its hood. So far, we don’t have any further information about this version. And we will have to wait for the manufacturer’s official announcement.
Design of exterior and interior
Changes in the exterior design of the brand-new 2019 Mitsubishi Pajero are definitively expected. Its styling should get a bit aggressive note with restyled sharp headlights, a revised grille, new design of the bumper, and more chrome details. The headlamps should also feature innovative LED lighting which will provide great visibility. Furthermore, the whole body is expected to receive refined lines and more sculpted body which will contribute to the more modern and more handsome appearance.
The interior of the 2019 Mitsubishi Pajero will also get a more modern design with high-quality materials and upgraded technology. The base model will include a 7.0-inch touchscreen, climate air conditioning, 18-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, a reverse camera, and a leather steering wheel. The mid-range GLS variant will add automatic wipers, parking sensors, sport front seats with heading function etc. The Exceed will get leather upholstery, an electric sunroof, Rockford Fosgate audio system with 12 speakers, automatic high beams, wood details on the steering wheel, and so on.
Arrival and expected price
The carmaker still hasn’t confirmed when the 2019 Mitsubishi Pajero will hit the market. The starting price should be higher than the price of current model which is around $54,000.
