The Nissan Armada represents the brand’s flagship SUV which stands above the Pathfinder model. Compared to its main rivals such as Chevrolet Tahoe or Infiniti QX80, the Armada is less expensive; so, if you need a capable, spacious and powerful SUV, then the Nissan Armada could be a good choice. The 2017 model year has entered a new generation of this model which means that it has been fully refreshed. Furthermore, the carmaker has just presented the 2018 Nissan Armada which arrived with just some small upgrades in the tech department. However, there is already the news about the newest version which will go on sale as the 2019 Nissan Armada.
The Nissan Armada is a full-size SUV which shares almost the same dimensions with the Infiniti QX80. However, it is much less pricey. It offers a spacious cabin and ability to carry up to eight passengers. So, it is a great choice for large families and trips. However, its third row of seats won’t be that roomy as some main competitors. As well, it comes with wide range of standard features. Under the hood, it has a strong V-8 engine and it is easy to drive. Its towing capabilities are also pretty good. Unfortunately, its fuel economy is really poor.
The 2018 model year has arrived pretty much without any changes compared to the current model. It has only received one upgrade considering equipment. It includes a rearview mirror with an LCD monitor placed in the glass of the standard rearview mirror and a camera positioned on the rear end of the vehicle. This serves if your vehicle is loaded with cargo or the visibility is limited because of the rear passengers. This feature now comes standard in the Platinum trim level.
So, the newest 2019 Nissan Armada will probably arrive with no changes too. It should be available in several trim levels as the current model which includes SV, SL, and Platinum. Its main rivals on the market will be GMC Yukon, Chevy Tahoe, Toyota Sequoia and Ford Expedition.
2019 Nissan Armada engine and performance
The 2019 Nissan Armada will be powered by the same engine as the 2018 model year. And there is one single option for all the trim levels. It is a 5.6-liter V-8 engine which is able to produce 390 horses and 394 pound-feet of torque. This unit pairs with a 7-speed automatic transmission. It is available with either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive systems. Its towing capacity is around 8,500 pounds. As for the fuel economy, with the rear-wheel drive it gets 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. With all-wheel drive configuration, it is estimated to be 13/18 mpg in the city/highway drive.
Design of exterior and interior
Speaking of the exterior design, the 2019 Nissan Armada won’t differ from the current model. It features a rugged yet elegant and sophisticated design with soft lines all over the body. The front end is dominated by the V-motion black grille with chrome accents and a pair of squarish LED headlamps. The base model rides on the 18-inch wheels while the SL and Platinum versions will get the larger 20-inch ones.
When it comes to the interior, the 2019 Nissan Armada will feature a spacious, comfortable and modern cabin. It has three rows of seats and it is able to welcome up to eight passengers. However, the third row will be a bit crowded and more suitable for children. Both front and the second row of seats are very wide, comfortable and provide plenty of head and leg room. The dashboard will feature an 8.0-inch touchscreen in the center with the infotainment system.
As for the equipment, it comes standard with dual-zone climate control, navigation, Bose audio system with 13 speakers, satellite radio, Bluetooth, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors and power-adjustable front seats. The SL trim will add around view rearview-camera, power liftgate, remote keyless entry, power-folding third-row seats, and auto-dimming rearview mirror. The top-ranking Platinum trim will include a moonroof, forward emergency braking, blind-spot detection, intelligent cruise control and forward collision warning system. There will also be a rear-seat entertainment system with dual 7.0-inch screens, DVD player, and wireless headphones.
Release date and price
The 2019 Nissan Armada should arrive in late 2018, but it is still not officially confirmed. Its price will most likely be the same as the one of the current model. The base model starts at around $47,000, the SL at $51,500 while the Platinum costs roughly $60,000.
