The Peugeot 2008 is the brand’s smallest crossover SUV in the lineup and it has become very popular on the roads because of its numerous qualities. The current model has been around since 2016, and now the manufacturer is working on the next generation model which will go on sale as the 2019 Peugeot 2008. The new Peugeot will bring many changes starting from the new platform, styling, and the brand-new all-electric version.
Engines and performances of the 2019 Peugeot 2008
The next generation of the French carmaker’s smallest SUV crossover will feature the same engines as its predecessor, but it will also get the new one. So, the 2019 Peugeot 2008 will be powered by familiar petrol and diesel units. The petrol engine is a 1.2-liter which has three outputs, 82, 110, and 130 horses. The mid-range 110 hp engine will be coupled to a 5-speed manual while the 130 variant is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. There is also a 1.6-liter diesel engine which also comes in three power outputs- 75, 100, and 120 horsepower. Both diesel and petrol units will get the Peugeot’s Grip Control in higher trim levels. The front-wheel drive configuration will be standard as before.
On the other hand, it is also confirmed that the newest Peugeot 2008 will be also offered in an electric version. However, we don’t have any further information about its new electric engine.
Design of exterior and interior
The 2019 Peugeot 2008 represents the first model year of the second generation model and naturally, we can expect some major changes. Visually, the new 2008 SUV will borrow some similar design cues from its larger siblings, the 3008 and 5008 SUVs. However, some major upgrades are expected under its exterior. So, the new generation Peugeot will now be underpinned with a new platform which is made by Peugeot manufacturer and the Chinese partners. Furthermore, thanks to this new architecture, the 2008 crossover SUV will now be lighter than its predecessor. But it will also be able to feature some kind of electrification.
Inside the cabin, the new 2019 Peugeot 2008 will now be roomier and there will be more head and leg room for all the passengers. So, it will provide a more comfortable ride. As well, the cargo space will also be much improved this time. However, there won’t be changes in seating configuration, so the Peugeot will come with two rows of seats as before.
Speaking of the equipment, we anticipate upgrades in that area as well. And the 2019 Peugeot 2008 will get upgraded technology borrowed from the larger 3008 and 5008. The dashboard will most likely get a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen with the latest i-Cockpit system. It is the same one used in the newest 3008.
Release date and price
It is still not confirmed when exactly we can expect the newest 2019 Peugeot 2008. However, we assume that it might be later this year or at the beginning of the next. The pricing could be slightly increased form the current model which begins at $20,000.
