The Subaru’s largest SUV ever is finally here. It is the all-new and improved 2019 Subaru Ascent model. This full-size three-row SUV has been already presented at the Los Angeles International Auto Show last year in November and it will go on sale sometime during this year.
The Subaru Ascent is very spacious, offering the space for up to eight passengers. The cargo space is also generous which makes it ideal for large families and trips. Although it is a new model, it could be easily recognized because its styling is very similar to the Outback model. Under the hood, the Ascent will feature an all-new engine which will be powerful and mated to the all-new CVT transmission. Unfortunately, the fuel efficiency is not yet known. As for the technology, the new Subaru will get upgraded safety systems and many standard features.
The 2019 Ascent will be available in several trim levels. Those will include a base, Premium, Limited and Touring. Its main competitors will be Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Dodge Durango, Volkswagen Atlas, and Chevy Traverse.
2019 Subaru Ascent engine and performance
The upcoming 2019 Subaru Ascent will be powered by the new turbo-4 engine. It is a 2.4-liter flat-4 turbocharged engine. This unit is able to develop 260 horsepower and the torque of 277 pound-feet. It will be mated to a continuously variable transmission. The all-wheel drive system will be standard. Furthermore, it will be able to tow up to 5,000 pounds.
Design of exterior and interior
Looking from the outside, the 2019 Subaru Ascent will borrow many design cues of the Outback model but, of course, it will be much larger. As well, its front fascia will be larger and taller and will feature more upright, trapezoidal grille. The headlamps are sleek and bold and give it a bit aggressive look. Moreover, they are equipped with LED lighting which will provide great visibility. The base model will ride on the standard 18-inch wheels.
The interior of the 2019 Subaru Ascent will be very spacious. It will be able to accommodate up to eight passengers in three rows of seats. The seats are covered in cloth while the Touring trim levels will add leather upholstery. With the second and the third row in place, it offers a cargo space of 19.6 cubic feet. However, if you fold down the third row, you get the space of 44.3 cubes while with the first row only there is a room of even 72.6 cubic feet. The dashboard will feature a standard 6.5-inch touchscreen. The Touring trim will include a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen with navigation.
As for the equipment, it will come standard with four USB ports, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, EyeSight safety systems and three-zone climate control. The top-ranging trim Touring will add heated and cooled front seats, a Harman Kardon sound system, front- and rear-facing cameras and woodgrain trim also. In the safety department, there will be active lane control, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, a rearview camera and so on.
Release date and price
The 2019 Subaru Ascent should go on sale sometime during this year. Its base price should be roughly $30,000.
