After a redesign of the Legacy and WRX models, the Subaru manufacturer is continuing with the improvement of its SUV lineup. This time, we are talking about the Subaru Outback which could also be called a wagon. The Company has recently launched the 2018 version of the Outback, but there are also rumors about the newest edition of this model which should arrive as the 2019 Subaru Outback.
The Outback is generally a capable sport utility vehicle which is at the same time great for larger families, a good cargo hauler, and solid off-roader. It offers two types of engines under its hood among which, the inline-4 provides better fuel efficiency. As well, the all-wheel-drive system is standard which is great. The interior is very roomy offering three rows of seats.
The 2018 model year will arrive with some cosmetic changes in the exterior styling including revised bumpers, headlamps, and grille. The higher trims have also added the new design of the wheels. As well, the Company promises quieter transmission and general exterior noise because of the more aerodynamic body. Inside the cabin, we will also notice numerous changes. Starting from the redesigned dashboard and steering wheel to some upgrades considering equipment. The infotainment system will increase in size and will be offered with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
However, the 2019 Subaru Outback could get the major revamp this time, but nothing is yet sure since there is any specific information. On the other hand, the 2019 model year could continue with the same design as the current model and for a full redesign, we could wait for the year of 2020. We can also expect it to be available in the same trim levels as before. Those will include a base, Premium, Limited and Touring models.
It toughest competitors will include Jeep Grand Cherokee, Buick Regal, Volvo V60 Cross Country and Subaru Forester.
2019 Subaru Outback engines and performances
The engine which is going to power the newest 2019 Subaru Outback will most likely be the same one which powers the current model. As the matter of fact, there will be two options to choose from. The base on will be a 2.5-liter inline-4 which is able to generate 175 horses and 174 pound-feet of torque. The power will be sent to all wheels and it will pair with a continuously variable transmission.
The Limited and Touring trims will be available with a 3.6-liter flat-6 engine. This one will be able to produce 256 horses and 247 pound-feet of torque. Its towing capacity will be up to 2,700 pounds. As for the fuel economy, the first one gets 25/32/28 mpg. However, the flat-6 will be less efficient and it is rated at 20 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway and 22 mpg combined.
Design of exterior and interior
Speaking of the exterior design, the Outback has been redesign with new wider grille and revised bumpers as the 2018 model year. It has also gotten adaptive headlamps which have also been restyled for more aggressive appearance; and revised side-view mirrors which are more aerodynamic. However, for the 2019 Subaru Outback, we can expect either no changes or some major upgrade like we have mentioned earlier.
Speaking of the interior, the 2019 Subaru Outback will feature quiet, comfortable, functional and very well equipped cabin. It will offer a plenty of space for all the passengers to drive comfortably. The front seats are very cozy and supportive and the driver’s seat is power adjustable. The seats will be upholstered in cloth while the leather will be available in higher trims. As well, the Outback will feature French stitching on dashboard, seats and door panels. The dashboard will feature a standard 6.5-inch touchscreen with infotainment system which will include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
The standard equipment will include Bluetooth, power windows and locks, alloy wheels and silver-painted interior trim. The premium trim will add heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and larger 8.0-inch touchscreen. The Limited trim will arrive with blind-spot monitors, Harman Kardon audio, heated rear seats, keyless ignition, a power moonroof and 18-inch alloy wheels.
The standard safety equipment will be eight airbags, stability control, anti-lock brakes and a rearview camera.
Release date and price
The exact arrival of the new 2019 Subaru Outback is still unknown. Speaking of the price, we assume that it should be similar to the one of the current model which starts at around $26,000.
