Toyota Highlander still manages to be one of the favorite choices for families mostly. It is a three-row crossover with an ability to welcome eight passengers; it is safe, reliable and comes with several engine choices including a hybrid drivetrain. In 2017, the Highlander has been fully refreshed and the next, 2018 model year has arrived with no changes. However, the next 2019 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is also announced, but this version too should enter as a carryover.
Although the newest Highlander shouldn’t bring any upgrades, we might see some small changes. In the exterior department, it could get a new design of the wheels and perhaps some new exterior color shades. The interior of the upcoming Toyota should also remain unchanged but some small adjustments of the infotainment system could be seen. As well, the materials used in its design could be upgraded and there could also be some new interior color combinations. On the other hand, the powertrain will stay unchanged this time and there will be several units to choose from, besides the hybrid version on which we will mainly focus.
Engine and performance of the 2019 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
The 2019 Toyota Highlander Hybrid will carry over the same engine as before. It is a hybrid engine which combines a 3.5-liter V-6 and an electric motor which will together be able to deliver 306 horsepower. This unit will pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission. In the LE trim, this engine gets 30 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. However, in the XLE, Limited, and Limited Platinum versions, it is rated at 29/27 mpg in the city/highway drive.
Furthermore, the standard version will use a 2.7-liter inline-4 in the base trim. This engine is capable of making 185 hp and the torque of 184 lb-ft and will be mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. The higher trims will be equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 with the output of 295 hp and 263 pound-feet of torque. This engine works with an 8-speed automatic.
Design of exterior and interior
The 2019 Toyota Highlander Hybrid shouldn’t see any cosmetic changes this time. It looks handsome and a bit aggressive with its massive grille and elongated headlamps. However, the carmaker might equip it with the new design of the wheels. As well, some new exterior colors are also likely to happen.
We can expect the same for the interior of the newest 2019 Toyota Highlander Hybrid which will arrive mostly unchanged. On the center of the dash, there is a standard 6.1-inch touchscreen which now might get an upgraded infotainment system. However, the higher trims are fitted with a larger 8.0-inch screen.
As for the equipment, all models come with a rearview camera, cloth upholstery, Bluetooth, USB, a power driver’s seat, tinted windows etc.
The higher trims add three-zone climate control, navigation, a moonroof, a JBL audio system, a heated steering wheel and so on.
Expected arrival and estimated price
The production of the 2019 Toyota Highlander Hybrid should start this fall. The price will probably remain similar and it is in a range front $32,000-$50,000.
