The Toyota Sequoia has firstly introduced in 2001 and it represented the Company’s largest SUV in the offer. And through the years, it hasn’t changed much except some small upgrades inside and out. But besides that, the Sequoia is still very popular on the road. The latest 2018 Toyota Sequoia has been already presented at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show. However, the latest reports indicate that the Japanese manufacturer is already working on the newest model which should hit the market as the 2019 Toyota Sequoia.
The Sequoia is a full-size SUV which stands above the Highlander model. It is very capable with an ability to tow up to 7,400 pounds. It is a great off-roader as well and features very spacious cabin with three-row seating configuration. Under the hood, it has a strong V-8 engine which is unfortunately not that fuel efficient. It is well equipped too and it features many standard safety systems.
For the 2018 model year, the Toyota Sequoia hasn’t changed that much but it has received changes in exterior and interior styling which are not insignificant. So, visually, the Sequoia will receive some small adjustments such as redesign grille and lights which will depend on a trim level. There will also be three new exterior colors including Shoreline Blue Pearl, Midnight Black Metallic, and Toasted Walnut Pearl. As well, besides the SR5, Limited and Platinum trims, the Japanese carmaker has also introduced the new TRD Sport model. This version will add more black accents to the exterior styling, larger 20-inch black wheels and the black theme inside the cabin.
As for the newest, 2019 Toyota Sequoia, there isn’t much official information. And if the rumors are true, the 2019 model year will most likely arrive pretty much the same as the current model. Its main rivals on the market will be Dodge Durango, Ford Expedition, GMC Yukon, Chevy Tahoe and Nissan Armada.
2019 Toyota Sequoia engine and performance
Under the hood of the upcoming 2019 Toyota Sequoia, it will most likely be placed the same engine which powers the current model. It means that there will be one single option for all the trims. It is a 5.7-liter V-8 engine which is able to generate 381 horses and 401 pound-feet of torque. The engine will pair with a 6-speed automatic transmission. It will be available with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel-drive systems. Furthermore, the Sequoia will be able to reach 60 mph in around seven seconds and less. As for the fuel economy, it gets 13/17/15 mpg with rear-wheel drive. With all-wheel drive, it is rated at 13 mpg in the city, 17 mpg on the highway and 14 mpg combined.
Design of exterior and interior
Speaking of the exterior design, the 2019 Toyota Sequoia will keep its recognizable rugged appearance. On the front end, there will be a new design of the grille and restyled LED headlamps which were introduced in the 2018 model year. The fog lamps and LED daytime running lights will also be new. It will ride on standard 18-inch alloy wheels. Furthermore, the Company has also introduced the new TRD Sport version which will differ from the standard model. This version will add 20-inch black aluminum wheels, black mirror caps, smoked taillights, and different design of the bumper and grille which will feature more chrome details.
The interior of the latest 2019 Toyota Sequoia will be spacious offering three rows of seats. The front seats will be very comfortable and wide; the second row can slide fore if needed more leg room. However, the third row might be tight for adults and it will be the best option for children. It can also be folded down if you need more cargo room. The dashboard will feature a standard 6.1-inch touchscreen with the infotainment system. The TRD Sport will add black fabric seats while the black leather upholstery will be optional.
As for the equipment, it will come standard with three-zone climate control, Bluetooth, a power adjustable driver’s seat, a rearview camera etc. The higher trim levels will add adaptive cruise control, Blu-Ray player for the rear seats, a power liftgate and so on. When it comes to the safety, the standard features will include rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitors, forward collision warning etc.
Release date and price
It is still not confirmed when the 2019 Toyota Sequoia will enter the showrooms. However, we assume that it won’t be until late 2018. As for the price, it should be similar to the one of the current model which starts at around $48,500.
