After the 2018 VW Atlas has made its debut, the Volkswagen Company has finally gotten a three-row mid-size crossover SUV. It is a family-oriented vehicle which offers well-equipped and nicely designed cabin and elegant styling. Compared to the other models in its segment, the VW Atlas provides the most spacious cabin and far better access to the third row. This vehicle has been all-new for the 2018 model year and this time we will talk about newest 2019 VW Atlas which most likely won’t bring any upgrades. So, as a carryover, the 2019 Atlas will hit the markets with no changes.
If you are looking for a spacious and tech-friendly mid-size crossover, then you should definitively consider the Atlas. As well, it has ample third-row seats and very good cargo space. Unfortunately, it might lack in power a bit and the all-wheel drive system with a 4-cylinder engine aren’t in the offer. The 2019 model year will be available in three trim levels as the current model. Those are the base S, mid-range SE, and the range-topping SEL versions. When we add its relatively affordable price, the VW Atlas is surely worth considering.
Engines and performances of the 2019 VW Atlas
The powertrain options of the upcoming 2019 VW Atlas will remain the same as the current version. And there are two options. The one is a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbo unit. This engine will be able to make 235 hp and the torque of 258 pound-feet. It will pair with an 8-speed automatic and will come with front-wheel drive system only. It gets 22 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
The second engine is a 3.6-liter V-6 which has the output of 276 ponies and 266 lb-ft of torque. It will also use the same 8-speed automatic but will also offer an all-wheel drive configuration. So, with front-wheel, it is rated at 18/25 mpg while with all-wheel drive it is estimated to be 17/23 mpg in the city/highway drive.
Design of exterior and interior
The 2019 VW Atlas will also be a carryover when it comes to the design of the exterior. Compared to its main rivals, it is a bit smaller but the carmaker managed to make the spacious and easy-to-access interior. Visually, the Atlas looks conservative, elegant but yet muscular. Up front, there is a wide grille with a pair of LED headlamps. The SEL version will ride on the larger 20-inch alloy wheels while the base uses 18-inch aluminum wheels.
Inside, the 2019 VW Atlas has three rows of seats and can place up to seven passengers. It has one of the easiest-to-access cabins in its class. The seats are covered in cloth and the SEL version will include leather. The third row can be folded away if needed for more cargo room. On the center of the dash, there is a 6.5-inch touchscreen while an 8.0-inch display will be available in the SEL trim.
The standard equipment includes 2-zone climate control, power mirrors, cruise control, an audio with six speakers, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and so on. All the models come standard with automatic post-collision braking, six airbags, VW’s intelligent crash response system etc. The SE version will add rain-sensing wipers, blind spot monitors, heated front seats, three more USB ports, a power driver’s seat etc. The SEL will include a power tailgate, panoramic sunroof, trailer hitch, and front and rear park distance control. Furthermore, it will offer an optional Premium package.
Release date and pricing
The arrival of the 2019 VW Atlas is not yet known. The price should remain similar and it starts at around $ 31,000 and goes up to $49,500.
