Since it has been introduced, nine years ago, the first generation of the VW Tiguan hasn’t changed much. And the compact SUV segment has significantly grown and become more competitive, so the manufacturer has finally presented the second generation of this model which has entered the market as the 2018 VW Tiguan. However, the newest version of this model has also been announced and it is the upcoming 2019 VW Tiguan.
The newest 2019 VW Tiguan should enter the market without any significant changes since the 2018 model year has been fully revamped. It has grown in size and it is now one of the largest crossovers SUVs in its segment. It is spacious enough to be offered with a three-row seating configuration which, we must admit isn’t a frequent case for a vehicle of its class. As well, it offers many standard features, attractive sharp styling, and quiet ride. On the other hand, what we might resent it, is not so efficient and not so powerful engine and slow acceleration. Furthermore, the new Tiguan will be available in the same trim levels as its predecessor. Those are the base S, mid-range SE and the range-topping SEL and SEL Premium models.
2019 VW Tiguan engine and performance
The 2019 VW Tiguan will use the same engine as its forerunner and there is one option for all the versions. It is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. This powertrain will be able to develop 184 horses and the torque of 221 lb-ft. It will work with an 8-speed automatic transmission and its towing capacity will be up to 1,500 pounds. Moreover, there will be a choice between the front-wheel and all-wheel drive systems. Speaking of the fuel economy, it gets 22/27 mpg with front-wheel drive. With AWD, it is rated at 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
Exterior styling and design of interior
The 2019 VW Tiguan will carry over with the same sharp and conservative design of the 2018 model year which has been fully refreshed. It is now the longest model in its class and now features LED taillights. The premium trims have added LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights. Furthermore, the optional R-Line package includes sportier design and larger wheels.
Moving to the interior, the 2019 VW Tiguan will be available in two-row and three-row seating configurations. However, the third row will be best suitable for small adults or kids. All the seats are sufficiently comfortable and supportive and upholstered in cloth in the base trim. The SE model will add synthetic leather. The dashboard will receive a 6.5-inch touchscreen with standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Among other standard features, there will be USB, a rearview camera, audio system with six speakers, Bluetooth etc. The SE version will add larger 8.0-inch screen, keyless ignition, power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, three USB ports, and so on. The SEL trim will also include navigation, adaptive cruise control, power liftgate and remote start.
Release date and price
The 2019 VW Tiguan could arrive later this year or at the beginning of 2019. The price will most likely remain the same and it starts at around $25,000.
