2019 VW Touareg: Review, Specs, Release Date, Redesign

The photos of the all-new 2019 VW Touareg has recently appeared on the internet. And this time, the newest Touareg has been caught wearing no disguise. This mid-size sport utility vehicle will represent the third generation model and based on these images, it looks even better than we have expected. Its premiere will most likely take place at the upcoming 2018 Beijing Auto Show.

So, what can we conclude judging by the latest photos? Well, it seems that the VW Touareg has received more dynamic styling and now appears to be a bit wider. What it obvious too, is that its design is highly influenced by the T-Prime GTE Concept. As well, we assume that it will undergo some weight reduction which should affect better performance and aerodynamics. The interior should also be revised so it looks more refined and cozy. Speaking of the engines, there probably won’t be any surprises this time.

The future VW Touareg will find its toughest rivals in Ford Edge, Lexus RX, Jeep Grand Cherokee, BMW X5, Lincoln MKX and Mercedes-Benz GLE-class.

2019 VW Touareg engines and performances

The 2019 VW Touareg will be available with several types of engines including V-6 and V-8 units. However, some sources say that there will also be a hybrid engine in the offer. So, there will most likely be a 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine which will be offered in two versions. Its output will be in a range from 215 horses to 270 horses. As well, we can expect a 2.0-liter turbo-4 TSFI and a 3.0-liter V-6 TSFI supercharged gasoline units. The V-8 TDI version should also be one of the options. On the other hand, the Touareg will offer a plug-in hybrid powertrain as well. It will most likely be a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor. Its all-electric range is estimated to be up to 30 miles.

The engines will pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission and the all-wheel drive system will be standard.

New platform, exterior, and interior

The 2019 VW Touareg will be moved to the new platform and it is a long-wheel version of the MLB platform. This architecture also underpins the new Bentley Bentayga, Audi Q7, and Porsche Cayenne. So, the future Touareg will be significantly larger than its predecessor. As for the external appearance, the new VW will borrow some styling cues from the T-Prime GTE Concept model. Its front end will be dominated by the large, chrome grille, LED headlamps and deeper air intakes. The whole body will be more angular, modern, and sleeker. The rear end will also feature some adjustments such as revised taillights and new chrome exhaust pipes.

There isn’t much information about the cabin of the 2019 VW Touareg, but it seems that its design will also be similar to the one of the T-Prime model. So, it could get a new and larger 15.0-inch touchscreen in the center of the dashboard and there should be more space for all the passengers and therefore more comfort.
