The upcoming 2020 Dodge Durango SRT is ready to conquer once again. This full-size SUV is simply dominating the non-luxury high-performance segment. However, that could change in the future as Ford is now offering the Explorer ST variant.
For that reason, Dodge will provide further updates to its Durango SRT model. Performance won’t be improved. After all, Durango is one of the fastest SUVs in the markets. However, we can expect innovations, mostly visual. On top of that, the interior will get further updates as well.
Changes and Updates
The all-new 2020 Dodge Durango SRT will introduce small exterior updates. All of the updates are visual and this model won’t offer any new features. The front fascia looks premium and shiny. Grille and the air dam are slightly wider than before. Also, air intakes are wider as well.
Modified LED headlights are looking more attractive and turn indicators are smoother. The aggressive hood will remain, just like the 20-inch wheels. The rear end will stay intact. The updates are minor but have in mind the current design is relatively fresh.
We like premium exterior paints, everyone does. Dodge always had the ability to offer a gorgeous palette of colors. The 2020 Dodge Durango SRT will be available in eleven different paints. That includes colors such as Ocean Blue Pearl, Granite Clear Coat and Vice White.
Also, Bruiser Grey Clear Coat is available too. On top of that, some colors will be borrowed from the regular Durango model. Colors such as Redline Red, Octane Red, In-Violet and White Knuckle will be in the offer as well.
Performance and Fuel Economy
Under the hood, a familiar and powerful 6.4-liter Hemi V8 is available once again. This strong unit is producing 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. A TorqueFlight 8-speed automatic transmission is available too. The four-wheel-drive system is standard and the 2020 Dodge Durango SRT sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds.
Fuel economy is rated at 13 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. That makes 15 mpg combined which isn’t such a good fuel economy rating. However, this SUV is all about high performances and speed.
Dodge Durango SRT vs Ford Explorer SRT
For years, Durango SRT didn’t have any real competition. The three-row high-performance SUV segment was literally empty. But that is all changing now thanks to the Ford and its all-new Explorer ST model. These two models are very similar and will compete for the top spot in their respective segment. Explorer ST and Durango SRT will be two totally different models, but on the other hand, very similar. For the start, Durango’s 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque beat Explorer’s 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of twist. We know, performance is not all about power.
Explorer is a significantly lighter model, by 800 pounds. Weight-to-power ratio is very similar. Dimensionally, those models are very close to each other. However, Durango is slightly taller and longer, while Explorer is wider. From the inside, we must say the Explorer ST model takes the win all the way. It is more practical, the layout is perfect and design is better.
Despite similar dimensions, Explorer offers significantly more legroom. As for the fuel economy and price, Explorer ST takes the win once again. Explorer will deliver at least 20 mpg combined and it will cost around $5,000 less than the 2020 Dodge Durango SRT.
2020 Dodge Durango SRT Price and Release Date
The brand-new 2020 Dodge Durango SRT will cost $64,000. It is a significant price difference, as the base model starts at $42,000. However, SRT model looks and feels premium for a reason. On top of that, it delivers superb performance thanks to its strong Hemi V8 engine. This SUV will go on sale later in 2019.
