If the latest rumors are true, the manufacturer is planning to reveal its all-new 2020 Toyota 4Runner sometime during next year. Compared to the current model year, the 2020 version will majorly stay the same. However, this time it could get some minor styling tweaks, revised interior, more tech features, and upgraded materials. The engine will probably stay the same as before.
2020 Toyota 4Runner engine and transmission
Beneath the hood of the newest 2020 Toyota 4Runner will most likely be placed the same engine as in the outgoing model. And there is one engine option for all the trim levels. It is the same 4.0-liter V-6 powertrain which is able to develop 270 horses and 278 lb-ft of torque. The engine is linked to a 5-speed automatic transmission and comes with three drivetrain options. So, the SR5 and Limited come with a two-wheel drive system, the SR5 and TRD are available with the part-time all-wheel drive while the Limited gets full-time all-wheel drive configuration. As for the fuel economy, the two-wheel drive model gets 17 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. Connected to all wheels, it is rated at 17 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.
Design of exterior and interior
Probably nothing significant would change in the terms of the external appearance of the newest 2020 Toyota 4Runner. It will keep its rugged and aggressive look with its large two-tier grille, accentuated bumper, and prominent headlamps below which there are two indentations on a shape of a boomerang. Generally, the whole body looks boxy and muscular which pronounces its off-road intentions. All the models have roof racks. As well, the range-topping TRD model will get a slightly different hood and more ground clearance. So, the 2020 model year will mostly come unchanged except it could get some small adjustments in order to look fresh.
The 2020 Toyota 4Runner will come standard with two rows of seats while the third row will be available in the SR5 and Limited trims. However, the third row is very tight and it is the best for children. The front seats are supportive, comfortable and power adjustable. The cargo room is pretty good and behind the second row, there is a room of 47.2 cubes. Its maximum cargo room expands to almost 90 cubic feet.
Equipment of the 2020 Toyota 4Runner
The standard equipment of the 2020 Toyota 4Runner will include a rearview camera, a 6.1-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, 17-inch alloy wheels, an audio system with 8 speakers, and a power driver’s seat. The SR5 Premium will add fronts seat heaters, navigation, and synthetic4 leather upholstery. The TRD Off Road and TRD Off Road Premium will get more off-road capability and unique design of the grille, Bilstein shocks, and heavy-duty suspension.
Release date and price
The carmaker still hasn’t revealed when the 2020 Toyota 4Runner will go on sale but it might be during next year. The price probably would be much different from the current which is around $35,900 for the base model.
