The forthcoming 2021 Dodge Durango will introduce significant changes and upgrades. The fourth-generation Durango is about to arrive and the changes are at least radical. For the start, this uni-body SUV will become a body-on-frame model. This is perhaps the best way to keep Durango in the packed SUV segment.
With this change, Durango’s production will be moved. According to reliable sources, new Durango will be based on the Ram 1500 pickup truck model. New architecture means plenty of changes in terms of styling and design. However, the current engine will most likely remain.
Durango Turns to Body-On-Frame platform
The all-new 2021 Dodge Durango is switching from the uni-body configuration to the body-on-frame setup. However, this isn’t the first time Durango is a body-on-frame SUV. The 2009 model was available with the same architecture.
This significant change means further significant changes in terms of styling and design. The 2021 Durango will be based on the iconic Ram 1500 truck. However, exact exterior details are not available yet, but you can expect serious upgrades and changes.
From the inside, things will also change drastically. The three-row configuration will remain surely. But the rest of the cabin layout should undergo serious changes and upgrades. Besides the more premium and luxurious cabin, we can expect a complete redesign of the dashboard and center console.
Just like with the rest of the 2021 Dodge Durango, the interior is also a mystery. However, no doubt that the carmaker will deliver a premium SUV with the latest technology features and systems. Also, body-on-frame SUV will surely get numerous safety upgrades, it is a must.

According to the reliable sources, the 2021 Dodge Durango will keep its 5.7-liter Hemi V8 that produces 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. The base Durango model will once again offer a 3.6-liter V6 that generates 295 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. On top of that, Durango Hybrid will also arrive and it will use the same mild hybrid system like the Ram 1500.
The upcoming 2021 Dodge Durango will switch to the body-on-frame platform. Okay, we mentioned that five times at least. Whatsoever, new Durango will move the production to Warren, Michigan. The same factory is producing a Ram 1500 truck.
On top of that, Warren’s plant is the FCA’s oldest plant and it will go through a billion dollars upgrade. After the upgrades are done, the same plant will produce Jeep Wagoneer and RAM HD pickup trucks.
